UNICEF’s Private Fundraising and Partnerships Division (PFP) drives UNICEF’s engagement with the private sector through global support in Geneva, regional support through Regional Support Centres (RSCs) and units supporting seven Regional Offices, and through a network of 33 UNICEF National Committees. The Public Partnerships Division (PPD) drives UNICEF’s engagement with the public sector – governments, bilaterals, multilaterals, and international finance institutions.

The Programme Coordination Unit (PCU) enables both private and public sector colleagues to raise funds from donors and to develop game changing partnerships. PCU achieves this in three ways. First, by developing a range of fundraising publications targeted at numerous audiences including business, philanthropists, government, bilaterals, and foundations. These publications are written and presented in a professional and high-quality manner, using expert knowledge of both programmes and fundraising, and designed to be visually appealing and easily understandable by prospective donors and partners. Second, PCU leads capacity building on UNICEF’s programmes and operations for private and public sector colleagues and teams. This involves developing and delivering training content that is built on the foundations of the fundraisign content. And third, lookign at the system and the enablign environment for quality partnerships through quality reporting, programme visits, and application of Rights and Results Programming.

The Programme Specialist (Content Lead) is responsible for providing specific support across the entire team strategy, including the “Product”, “People” and “Systems” pillars. Specifically, this role will look at the following aspects of work across the pillars: manage and coordinate the content pipeline (investment cases and propositions the team develops) within the “Product” pillar; support the “People” pillar through institutionalizing flagship offerings, develop new training materials as needed, and provide strategic programmatic advice; and focus on Rights and Results Programming and the programme visits within the “Systems” pillar. This role involves bringing together experts across UNICEF programmes and private and public sector audiences, such as Businesses, Philanthropists, Foundations, Governments, Bilaterals and multilaterals.

“Products”: Manage the content pipeline for fundraising and partnerships content:

  • Manage the content pipeline for investment cases, proposals, and bespoke content for high value partnerships with the private and public sectors.
  • Collaborate with writers and teams across PFP, PPD, National Committees and programme teams and other divisions such as Programme Group or Supply Division to identify needs need, manage priorities, resources, and expectations of stakeholders, and provide quality assurance of the content.

“People”: Support capacity building on programmes and the intersection with fundraising:

  • Support PCU’s capacity building portfolio, including leading the institutionalization of the flagship Programme Masterclass, developing content (PPTs) and stakeholder management for global webinars, and coordinating spoke trainings as there is demand.
  • Provide overall operational support for all the Programme Masterclass trainings and engagement in a variety of team trainings for the larger programme focal point network and colleagues across the organization.

“Systems”: Lead the Programme Visit Procedure finalization and support other team priorities:

  • Engage with stakeholders across the organization from country offices to National Commitees and other divisions, to lead the finalization of the Programme Visit Procedure, which requires final consultation, development of training materials, and organizational rollout.
  • Support other team priorities, such as the continued development and implementation of the ESG reporting guidance for PFP, National Committees and country offices.

To qualify as a Champion for every child you will have…

Education:

  • An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: communications, social sciences, marketing, public relations, business administration and management, or any other relevant subject.
  • Alternatively, a first-level university degree in a relevant field in combination with an additional 2 years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible professional work experience in private and public sector engagement/fundraising with significant cross-over with development programming is required.
  • Experience in developing written and presentational materials for partners required.
  • Solid understanding of UNICEF programmes and operations; regional or country office experience is an asset.
  • Solid understanding of audience interests across public and private sectors.
  • Strong understanding of sustainability within the UN.
  • Strong planning and organizing skills required with evidence of managing and coordinating complex processes.
  • UN/UNICEF experience is an asset.
  • Strong strategic thinking and creative thinking skills.
  • Strong writing skills, with a strong preference for knowledge and experience in writing for private sector audiences is an asset.
  • Highest-level communication skills, including engaging and informative public speaking.
  • Excellent people skills and is able to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge and expertise.

Language requirements:

  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
