Duties and Responsibilities

The interns will be working with the Secretariat of the Dugong MOU, which is located in Abu Dhabi, the CMS Office. Overall Background and General Work Description: The intern’s work focuses on supporting the implementation of the Dugong Conservation and Management Plan. They will coordinate and draft news stories, manage social media channels, and contribute to newsletters to raise awareness about dugong and seagrass conservation efforts. Additionally, they will support the delivery of the Fourth Meeting of Signatories (MOS4) and assist in organizing events, workshops, and virtual meetings related to the 2030 Seagrass Breakthrough. The intern will also contribute to the development of communication materials, policy briefs, and lessons learned reports aimed at promoting sustainable seagrass ecosystem management. Other duties include maintaining databases, taking meeting notes, preparing reports, and performing ad-hoc activities as required.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: a) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (Minimum Bachelor´s level or equivalent), or c) Have graduated with a university degree. Candidates with the following areas of study will be given preference: biology, ecology, zoology, environmental science, geography, international law, international relations, or data analytics. Applicants must:

  • Have a keen interest in working on wildlife conservation matters
  • Have a keen interest in the work of the United Nations
  • Have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter
  • Have demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views
  • Be literate in standard computer software

Languages

  • Required: English Desirable: Arabic
