The University of Montana invites applications for a Project Administrator for NSF Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (NSF EPSCoR).  The UM Project Administrator will be a member of a multi-campus team, supporting project management, reporting and communications for a large five-year NSF EPSCoR RII Track-1 project. The project administrator operates with an exceptionally high degree of autonomy to administer and manage the program and execute the responsibilities outlined below.

 Responsibilities and Duties include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Having the authority to execute all programmatic functions in the absence of the UM project co-PI.
  • Supervising internal evaluations including the multi-campus annual reporting and submission, including contributing to narrative writing and editing.
  • Working with external evaluators to the NSF EPSCoR RII Track-1 project to develop and monitor metrics for tracking progress and outcomes.
  • Working collaboratively with EPSCoR staff at UM and MSU as well as partners for workforce development, outreach, education, and diversity to create and implement programs that fulfill the aims of the NSF EPSCoR Program and Montana NSF EPSCoR RII Track-1 projects.
  • Collecting and maintaining project data and information on funded participants, external engagement, publications, data products, grant submissions, highlights, external evaluation and other project activities and outputs.
  • Creating written reports communicating project progress towards the stated goals and objectives for internal and external use, including the Montana Office for the Commissioner of Higher Education, Project Advisory Board, and NSF Site and Reverse Site Visit.
  • Working with fiscal administrators at UM and MSU to track annual project budgets and awards.
  • Leading internal project communications.
  • Ensuring that the full multi-campus team remains informed and engaged.
  • Supporting external project communications.
  • Helping to identify and develop project highlights, articles, and updates for newsletters, website, and print materials.
  • Supervising and helping manage logistics for project events and meetings, including participant travel.
  • Overseeing project-supported undergraduate and graduate student programs, including internship programs, professional training and cohort engagement.
  • Providing project administrative support for the UM co-PI and the Project Director/PI at MSU.
  • Acting as a liaison.
  • Supporting communication between the Montana NSF EPSCoR office and the NSF EPSCoR program.
  • Traveling to national meetings on an annual or bi-annual basis. (or as needed); some in-state travel as needed.
  • Supervising staff to support project data collection, reporting, and/or events.

Position Details:

  • Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, Letter of Appointment and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver and wellness program.
  • Salary for this position ranges from $75,000-$80,000 per year commensurate with qualifications.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least two (2) years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Project management experience.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office applications, including Teams.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to travel to overnight meetings within the state and nationally.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience working with grant funded projects in higher education
  • Budget management experience
  • Experience with project evaluation
