Strengthening access to justice, the rule of law, and promoting human rights are cornerstones of UNDP’s mandate to achieve sustainable human development and eradicate extreme poverty. Through its work in these areas, UNDP contributes to building peace and democratic governance across various development contexts.

The UNDP Country Office in the Kyrgyz Republic, under the “Accountable Institutions, Justice and Peace” portfolio, is currently implementing several strategic initiatives. These initiatives aim to strengthen accountable and responsive justice institutions, build trust in state-society relations, and ensure inclusive processes that promote legal empowerment and access to justice for vulnerable populations, particularly women, youth, minorities, and persons with disabilities. Additionally, these initiatives focus on strengthening civil society, promoting and protecting human rights in business, and advancing environmental justice.

The UNDP project “Strengthening Human Rights and Equal Access to Justice in the Kyrgyz Republic” (3rd phase) is designed to support the current legal aid and justice reform agenda of the Kyrgyz Republic. This project aims to foster a more strategic, coordinated, responsive, gender-sensitive, and sustainable implementation in line with the adopted national legal aid framework. It also ensures compliance with human rights and international standards related to the administration of justice, including fair trials, due process of law, and equal access to justice for persons with disabilities, women, and rural communities.
