Jummar [Palm heart in Arabic] is an independent online media platform providing features and analysis of Iraqi affairs. Its main objectives are to provide Iraqi, regional, and international audiences with high-quality relevant information from diverse voices from Iraq, and to advance the practice of ethical and professional journalism amongst a new generation of Iraqi journalists. Jummar seeks to achieve these objectives through the production of accurate and balanced content, and through the provision of capacity building and mentoring for emerging and mid-career level Iraqi journalists.
Jummar is looking to hire a full-time Project and Grants Manager to support the organisation in securing funding, tracking grants and managing project operations.

Role summary
The Project and Grant Manager will:
- Proactively identify income from institutional donors, trusts and foundations and then develop project ideas into relevant and actionable proposals;
- Manage current grants, tracking the implementation of deliverables and reporting to management and donors.
The role requires a person with experience and relevant skills. You would ideally know Iraq well and/or understand the landscape for journalism and human rights in the region.
Main responsibilities and duties:
- Track project implementation (deliverables versus actual work) in coordination with the team, ensuring compliance with donor requirements and organizational policies;
- Coordinate internally and externally to ensure that projects adhere to scope, schedule, and budget;
- Monitor grant compliance and identify potential risks, proposing mitigation strategies when necessary;
- Develop internal efficient operational procedures and policies based on the programme needs;
- Work with the editorial team, the digital team and the management to submit timely proposals in response to calls including proposal development and coordinating the proposal administration process;
- Work with the team to develop new ideas for projects and submit them to donors;
- Develop and manage the grant application process, both through public/open calls and/or close/direct contacts with potential donors;
- Build and maintain databases of contacts and conversations with previous, current and potential donors and related organisations;
- Gather and share information on new potential funding and/or themes and communicate Jummar’s priorities to donors;
- Develop strategies for engaging with new prospective donors through research and data;
- Serve as a primary point of contact for donors regarding grant-related matters and develop relationships with Jummar’s existing donors;
- Prepare and coordinate the timely submission of high-quality narrative reports to donors in close collaboration with the management team;
- Collaborate with programme teams to collect relevant data and success stories for reporting purposes.
Qualifications:
- At least 2 years’ experience of working in a similar role
- Significant and demonstrable experience of project management and securing income from donors
- Ability to work independently and as part of a remote team
- High quality verbal and written communication in English and Arabic
- Problem-solving, proactive and critical thinking with a desire to collaborate
- High organisational skills and project management
- Ability to deliver high-level presentations to donors
