Context

FAO China Representation Office, in its Budget Holder capacity, is managing in total of 8 ongoing GEF-funded projects in China and is cooperating with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs in formulation of new project under GEF 8. These Projects cover a broad range of issues on biodiversity, climate change, water recourse management, etc., which have promoted the mainstreaming of biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation and adaptation, combating land degradation and sustainable agriculture, through policy advice, pilot activities, capacity building, raising awareness and knowledge sharing.

Task description

Under the primary supervision of Assistant Representatives, the UN Volunteer will report directly to the GEF Portfolio officers, s/he will support the management of ongoing GEF funded projects and the development of FAO-GEF new project through the following tasks:
• Support the GEF project team to preparer meeting reports, proposals, concept notes and other relevant documents.
• Assist in daily operations of the GEF funded projects, including translation of documentations, files maintenance/uploading, coordination with the implementation partners/experts on meetings, field missions, follow-up on deliveries as well as other operations issues.
• Conduct a literature review for information of ongoing GEF funded projects in China, with specific focus on food system, climate change and biodiversity conservation.
• Collect, document lessons/experience learned from the management of ongoing GEF funded projects, contribute to the communication/experience sharing among FAO country offices.
• Work closely with the communication team on the results, outcomes of the projects and pro-vide inputs and contribute to the development of flyers, newsletters, fact sheets, social media materials.
Furthermore, UNVs are encouraged to:
• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and taking an active part in UNV activities (for in-stance, IVD celebration events);
• Get acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
• Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking;
• Contribute news and articles on field experiences and submit them to UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
• Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UNV volunteers;
• Promote online volunteering and encourage individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering Service whenever technically feasible.
Results/Expected Output:
• GEF funded projects document/data maintained, analyzed.
• Literature review papers for information of ongoing GEF funded projects in China.
• Several stories/best practices/lessons collected.
• A final report at the end of the assignment.
• Successfully undertake in a timely manner the duties as set out above.
