Job Summary
Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of analytical practices, policies and procedures; researches, analyzes and develops solutions to a wide range of issues. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Primarily deals with policies, programs and proposals which are complex in nature and diverse in scope. Develops new programs, policies or procedures for possible implementation.
The Project Coordinator (PC) will work within UCSF’s Institute of Global Health Sciences’ Center for Pandemic Preparedness and Response (CPPR) on a growing set of activities focused on expanding CPPR’s portfolio within Latin America. Responsibilities of the PC will include stakeholder engagement, project management, business development, and data analysis. The PC will work with Senior IGHS and CPPR staff on day-to-day programming and operations planning and will have the opportunity to organize and attend leadership meetings, seminars, and special programs. The PC will rely on their communications, critical thinking, research design and administration and, other skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to global health leadership and effective pandemic response.
The PC’s portfolio of work will depend on the growth and expansion of CPPR’s LA portfolio; however, the PC will initially play a key role in two projects:
1. ENLACE—a CDC-funded project in Mexico aimed at enhancing surveillance for infectious diseases of binational interest, improve laboratory data reporting capacity, strengthen binational outbreak response, and assess programs and systems for better bilateral response strategies to vital public health events;
2. Border Health Initiative—Aimed at improving the health of migrants at the US-Mexico border, specifically providing access to maternal and reproductive health care, critical preventive care, and mental health care.
In close collaboration with CPPR leadership and technical leads, the PC will be responsible for initiating collaborations with key partners and stakeholders, creating work plans, tracking and reporting out deliverables across both projects. Working with CPPR’s management and operations leads, the PC will support budget and operations plans for the initial 6-12 months of activities.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% – 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

UCSF Institute for Global Health Sciences (IGHS) is dedicated to improving health and reducing the burden of disease in the world’s most vulnerable populations. It integrates UCSF expertise in all of the health, social, and biological sciences and focuses that expertise on pressing issues in global health. IGHS works with partners in countries throughout the world to achieve these aims.
UCSF Pandemic Initiative for Equity and Action (UPIEA), a group within UCSF Institute for Global Health Sciences (IGHS), tackles the global COVID-19 pandemic and address health inequalities locally and globally. UPIEA strives to engage communities in solutions to make healthcare accessible to all. This is conducted through a variety of training, partnership, community and surveillances programs, and shared research and quality improvement. UPIEA, in partnership with US Centers for Disease Control (CDC), is leading a multi-year project to improve surveillance systems to respond and prepare for pandemics and advance health equity in Latin America as well as the Middle East and North Africa, aimed at improving Global Health Security. UPIEA is also housed within the new Center for Pandemic Preparedness and Research (CPPR).

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- 3+ year directly related experience.
- Knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
- Analytical / problem-solving skills.
- Strong skills in analyzing, researching and synthesizing large amounts of data for preparing sound and relevant proposals / analyses.
- Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
- Strong policy analysis techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Global Health and/or equivalent experience / training
- Demonstrated experience in global health policy analysis, development, and leadership
- Demonstrated experience in pandemic preparedness efforts within Latin America
- Proficient in written and spoken Spanish
