Job SUMMARY:

Dedicated to promoting climate justice, CARE International in Iraq is set to launch the “Generation Green – Empowering Youths for Climate Change Mitigation Actions” project. This initiative, starting in January 2024 and concluding in December 2026 in Dohuk Governorate, Iraq, emphasizes environmental sustainability, youth empowerment, and community resilience. It aims to enhance climate resilience through innovative, climate-smart agricultural practices, making a significant contribution to climate change mitigation efforts. The project’s multifaceted approach includes forming a youth group, encouraging climate action, increasing public awareness, and backing small-scale environmental initiatives.

The Project Coordinator for the “Generation Green” project in Dohuk will assume a critical role in directing this groundbreaking climate action initiative. This position requires a highly skilled professional capable of strategic management, effective leadership, and comprehensive oversight of the project’s multifaceted components.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

Project Management and Oversight:

· Strategically guide the project’s implementation, ensuring strict adherence to timelines, objectives, and compliance with donor requirements.

· Collaborate closely with local universities and government institutions in Dohuk for integrated project execution.

Technical Leadership and Strategy:

· Provide specialized technical and managerial guidance, aligning with cutting-edge strategies in climate resilience and mitigation.

· Lead capacity-building initiatives, focusing on advanced climate-smart agricultural practices and innovative environmental solutions.

Community Engagement and Empowerment:

· Lead initiatives for youth empowerment and community involvement in climate action.

· Promote public awareness and education on climate change mitigation and sustainable practices.

Monitoring and Reporting:

· Oversee the project’s progress, ensuring all activities align with the intended goals and objectives in coordination with the MEAL team.

· Implement strategies to ensure the project’s long-term sustainability and positive impact on the community.

· Ensure findings from endline surveys, evaluations, and internal and external audits are used to improve programs.

· Prepare and submit weekly, monthly, interim and donor final reports, ensuring transparency and accountability.

Collaboration and Networking:

· In coordination with the Deputy Country Director and Head of Programs, establish and maintain contacts with local authorities, partner organizations, government bodies, and other stake holders. 

Budget Management:

· Monitor and manage the project budget, ensuring efficient allocation and utilization of resources and work closely with the finance team.

Risk Management:

· Identify potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate them effectively, prepare and update program risk matrix.

Additional Duties:

· Additional tasks may be assigned as required by the line manager within the project’s scope.

• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, 3 years in project management, specifically in environmental or climate-related initiatives.
• · Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area such as environment and agriculture engineering.
• · Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
• · Fluency in English and Kurdish both written and verbal. (Arabic is an asset)
• · Proficiency in engaging and working with youth and community groups.
• · Familiarity with the socio-political and environmental context of Dohuk Governorate, Iraq.
• · Ability to work collaboratively and foster a team-oriented environment.
• · High level computer and internet skills are required.
• · Strong multi-tasking, organizational, prioritization skills are necessary.
