Who are we?
The Diaspora Programme is implemented by the Danish Refugee Council (DRC)’s Localization Unit. As part of DRC localization efforts, the diasporas are considered as a part of the civil society actors of the countries and communities in which they have their roots and connections.
One of the projects under DRC’s Diaspora Programme is the Diaspora Project Support (DiPS). DiPS is a funding mechanism that provides financial and technical support to Afghan and Somali diaspora organisations in Denmark to implement activities in Afghanistan and Somalia. About the job
As the Project Coordinator of DiPS, you will have the overall responsibility of the implementation of the Diaspora Project Support Project. This includes the two main components of DiPS: 1) Management of the DiPS Fund and 2) Capacity development. As Coordinator you will also be supervising DiPS team and will be the project’ budget holder.
The main tasks will include, but not be limited to:
- Planning and implementation of activities in line with donor agreements (currently Danida, Strategic Partnership Agreement – SPA) and key project documents (proposal docs, LFA, etc.)
- Lead and supervise the DiPS team, ensuring clear roles and responsibilities, collaborating with in-country line managers for remote staff, and promoting strong coordination and communication within the team.
- Manage project budgets, including the DiPS Fund, overseeing funding allocation to diaspora-led projects, and ensuring compliance with internal financial systems like Dynamics.
- Coordinate internally and externally to ensure synergy, serving as the main contact for external stakeholders inquiring about DiPS and facilitating effective programming between headquarters, field offices, and external partners.
- Ensure clear guidelines and processes are in place for DiPS partners, aligning with DRC and donor requirements, and providing necessary training and support to staff.
- Lead the assessment and selection of diaspora-led projects for funding, facilitating input from the ExComm during the process.
- Monitor the progress of ongoing projects in Somalia and Afghanistan, providing support to project officers and specialists as needed.
- Schedule and lead meetings with the DiPS Advisory Board, and process and address feedback to ensure transparent communication and collaboration.
- Ad-hoc problem solving and carrying out of ad-hoc office-related tasks.
In addition, the coordinator will contribute to additional tasks/initiatives in support of the overall purpose of the Diaspora Programme. This can include but is not limited to the development of new project proposals (fundraising) in support of the Unit’s projects as well as DRC field offices’ diaspora and CS engagement; QA of relevant proposals and research papers; engagement in/contribution to cross-departmental processes.
About you
To succeed as a Project Coordinator with DiPS, you excel in mobilizing and collaborating with various actors and partners, taking the lead with autonomy in your work, and supporting your team while collaborating with colleagues in the Diaspora Programme.
Experience and technical competencies:
- Min. 4 years of experience within the field of development or humanitarian assistance.
- Min. 2 years of experience with project cycle management and grants management.
- Experience working with civil society, especially volunteer organizations, diaspora or ethnic minority organizations engaging in development and/or humanitarian initiatives.
- Experience with management of partner-led projects in a development or humanitarian context including allocation and distribution of funding to civil society partners.
- Practical experience with planning, developing and facilitating application procedures and compliance.
- Experience facilitating seminars and workshops with a participatory approach.
- Experience with financial management, Excel and a flair for numbers.
- Strong skills in cross-cultural communication and experience working with diverse groups.
- Constructive attitude and a desire to be part of a dynamic and busy team. Willing to take a hands-on and involved approach to project management.
Education:
- University Degree in relevant field.
- Office package: high level user in Excel
Languages: (indicate fluency level)
- Fluency in English required.
- Fluency in Danish preferred
- Knowledge of Somalia, Dari, or Pashto an advantage.

Contract length: 12 months (with potential extension for an additional 1 to 6 months)

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the agreement between DRC and AC. The position is at “fuldmægtig” level. This is a national position for which local terms and conditions apply.
