I. ACTED Background
ACTED is a French humanitarian NGO, founded in 1993, which supports vulnerable populations, affected by humanitarian crises worldwide. ACTED provides continued support to vulnerable communities by ensuring the sustainability of post-crisis interventions and engaging long-term challenges facing our target populations, in order to break the poverty cycle, foster development and reduce vulnerability to disasters. Their interventions seek to cover the multiple aspects of humanitarian and development crises through a multidisciplinary approach which is both global and local, and adapted to each context. Their 3,300 staff is committed in to responding to emergencies worldwide, to supporting recovery and rehabilitation, towards sustainable development.
Mission background
Acted, a French non-profit NGO, is present in Kenya since 2007 responding to the humanitarian and development needs of vulnerable communities affected by drought, flooding, displacement, and lack of access to basic services. Acted counts with a coordination office in Nairobi and operational bases in the Arid and Semi-Arid Land (ASAL) – Northern Kenya Counties. In 2022 alone, Acted has reached a total of 335,882 people through its various water sanitation and hygiene (WASH), food assistance and disaster preparedness programming contributing to strategic objectives of the Kenya government and the drought flash appeal.
Acted is looking for an qualified and motivated team player to fill the internship position in Nairobi.
Main Objective
The Project Development Intern (PDI) supports the Project Development Unit to ensure proper grant management by developing quality project progress reports in compliance with donors’ rules. The PDI helps facilitate smooth internal communication and coordination with relevant departments and contributes to Acted external communication strategy. The PDI contributes to fundraising efforts by participating in the development of project proposals in line with Acted’s global and in-country programme strategy.
II. Responsibilities:
Research and analysis
- Research and analysis of current socio-environmental issues in Kenya
- Undertake donor research and analysis to increase the understanding of the donor environment in Kenya as well as long-term perspectives and preferences
- Map and identify network partners to complement Acted’s work in any funding opportunity
Reporting
- Participate in and take minutes of meetings for each project
- Write quality narrative reports, reflecting the progress and status of projects in a transparent, timely and professional manner
- Work in close relation with the Monitoring and Evaluation Team as well as Finance to incorporate their inputs in reports
- Ensure implementing partners report to Acted in a timely and qualitative manner as per the requirements of the grant agreement
- File properly contractual project documents both in hard and soft copies
- Contribute to gathering information and stories from the field for donor engagement
- Create factsheets to update donors on projects activities and spread information on Acted programming
Internal and External Coordination

Fundraising

Update regularly a directory of donors, international and local NGOs, other partners and stakeholders

Contribute, when required, to the development of projects proposals in close collaboration with Acted HQ GMU (Grant Management Unit) and finance
Perform any other related activities as assigned by immediate supervisor
Protection mainstreaming– Promoting of and adhering to Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse policy and guidelines (for site residents, ACTED staff, partner agencies, casual labours etc).
III. Required qualifications and technical competencies:
- Master’s degree in international development studies, international relations, human rights, environmental studies, migration, or a related field;
- Fluent English (written and spoken), excellent writing and communication skills;
- Previous related work experience, with knowledge of reporting
- Prior work/volunteering experience with an NGO and/or prior experience with international donor-funded projects will be an advantage
- Knowledge of the local context and/or knowledge of climate change related issues will be an advantage
- Good team spirit and motivation
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and to manage multiple tasks
- Good organizational and prioritization skills;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
