In Kenya, FCA has been working since 2014 in all three thematic areas, supporting local communities and governments to resolve and prevent conflicts in five counties of northern Kenya; providing access to primary education in Turkana, Garissa, Marsabit, West Pokot and Samburu, Kenya’s poorest counties; and improving access to quality education for children, youth and their families with holistic support mechanisms.

Finn Church Aid Kenya is looking for a

Project Intern – 1 Position

Primary purpose of the position

  • Work alongside project leads to develop and execute interventions focused on empowering women waste pickers. This may include training sessions, capacity-building workshops, and community engagement activities.
  • Draft concept notes for various activities related to waste management projects, ensuring alignment with project objectives and target outcomes. Collaborate with team members to refine ideas and proposals.
  • Monitor the distribution of startup business kits to groups involved in residential waste management businesses. Track the usage and effectiveness of this model in generating income for women waste pickers.
  • Provide insights and recommendations on potential business opportunities within the waste value chains for women waste pickers groups. Conduct research on market trends and collaborate with project team to identify viable opportunities for economic empowerment.
  • Generate comprehensive activity reports to monitor and evaluate the progress and outcomes of project interventions. Compile data, analyze key performance indicators, and provide insights for continuous improvement and strategic decision-making.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Recent graduate of a relevant degree program (e.g., Environmental Science, Environmental Health, enewable Energy and Climate Solutions Climate Science, etc.).
  • Strong interest in waste management and sustainable development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Proactive and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Prior experience in project management or community development is a plus.project management and reporting tools is a plus.

  • Perform any other duty as may be assigned from Time to Time by the supervisor

Skills and abilities

  • Have strong attention to detail and possess strong written and spoken fluency in English or Swahili language
  • Proficiency in managing multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously, with a focus on meeting deadlines and project objectives.
  • Capacity to adapt to changing project requirements and stakeholder expectations while maintaining a positive and proactive approach.
