a National Park Authority play a crucial role in tackling the twin challenges of the global
Climate Emergency and Nature Crisis.

We have an exciting opportunity for a committed project delivery professional to join our
dynamic, innovative and ambitious team!

The Role:

In our Nature and Land Use Team we are leading the development and delivery of an ambitious new
nature restoration strategy, Future Nature. This sets out a vision and delivery plan to
collaborate with partners, work with landowners and charities, engage with and support
communities and to develop the policy and funding we need to actively restore nature all across
the National Park.

We have a –full time, one year (fixed term) role for a Project Management Advisor that will
suit experienced professionals looking to lead larger more complex projects and offers an
excellent opportunity to apply your knowledge and skills within a National Park setting. As
well as supporting the Nature and Land Use projects, this role will work with our Corporate
Project Management Team to help develop and evolve our project and programme management
processes across the organisation.

You will be joining the organisation at a key pivotal moment when we are refreshing our
strategic direction and identifying the priorities for the National Park to help address the
climate emergency and restore nature. Join us in these key roles in
supporting delivery for climate and nature and people and you will be helping to shape the
future of the Park and secure a wide range of benefits for not just the National Park as a
place but also the People who live, work and visit it.

Responsibilities:

  • To influence, lead and define the project management approach for specified projects
    undertaken by the NPA; thereafter to continuously monitor for audit purposes.
  • To provide expert advice and information as necessary, including training, on matters
    relating to project development and delivery.
  • Working as part of the corporate project management team, contribute to the review and
    development of our organisation-wide approach to project and programme management.
  • To directly develop and deliver non capital and capital projects.
  • Identify improvement opportunities, including efficiencies and deliver innovative solutions
    to capitalise on these.
  • To manage the initiation of projects including the development of an appropriate PID and
    project plan, in conjunction with relevant stakeholders.
  • To report project progress as directed by Project Managers, including attendance at Project
    Boards.
  • To oversee and monitor the budget for projects and report any concerns to Project Managers.
  • To manage the closure of projects including the handover and undertaking a lessons learned
    review.
  • To develop contingency plans and manage project risks, reporting any areas of concern to
    the appropriate Project Board.
  • Undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade as required.

Who we are looking for:

Your skills, abilities and experience should include:

  • For Future Nature roles you must also have specialist skills and experience to develop,
    deliver and monitor nature restoration projects
  • Proven track record of delivering projects using proven project management methodology
  • Experience of Budget management, including reporting, profiling and meeting year end
    deadlines and targets for spend
  • Significant experience of prioritising work and supporting a number of different projects
    simultaneously.
  • Experience of influencing multi-disciplinary project teams and senior managers
  • Experience of procurement and contracts management
  • Advanced practical knowledge of MS Project
  • Advanced practical knowledge of a proven Project Management methodology i.e. PRINCE2 or APM
  • High levels of determination and abilities to be a self-starter who is focused on the
    delivery of outcomes.
  • Excellent leadership, strategic thinking, management, organisational, analytical,
    interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to influence, motivate and lead diverse teams.
  • Ability to plan, manage and deliver against agreed outcomes, good attention to detail.

Ideally, but not essential, you’ll also have:

  • Experience of public sector led partnership projects
  • Experience of capital project development and delivery.
  • Sound understanding of the current Scottish Government’s priorities and strategies
    including in respect of Climate Change, biodiversity and net zero.
  • PRINCE2 Qualified/or APMP
  • Programme management i.e. MSP accreditation
