About Us
The mission of the Vermont Huts Association (VHA) is to foster a deeper appreciation of our natural environment and strengthen Vermont’s communities by providing enriching and immersive outdoor experiences for all. The vision of the Velomont Trail Collective (VTC) is to build the most innovative hut-supported trail system in the United States: a network of 485 miles of new and existing trail that connects 23 Vermont mountain biking chapters across public and private lands, linking 27 communities across the state. Once complete, The Velomont will be a world-class, statewide multi-use trail and hut network intentionally linking Vermont’s rural villages with the Green Mountains.

The Position
The Project Manager works with land managers and partners at the federal, state, and private level to coordinate and oversee the construction of shovel-ready Velomont Trail sections and backcountry Vermont Huts. The Project Manager will also support the executive directors at VTC and VHA to identify, scout, and flag new trail connections and hut sites to develop a healthy project pipeline while ensuring all required permits are secured in a timely manner.

The position requires traveling throughout the state of Vermont to achieve the following:

1. Coordination and development of the project pipeline

a. Work with local stakeholders and land managers to define routes of connectivity and new hut sites within the Velomont Trail corridor;
b. Distill stakeholder and land manager feedback and execute desktop reviews of conceptual trail routes and hut sites;
c. Schedule and attend site visits with stakeholders and land managers to field-truth desktop reviews;
d. Flag conceptual trail routes and hut sites, and upload related GPS data into our internal planning map
e. Coordinate, execute, and track progress of all necessary permits with support from the executive directors;
f. Log the status of all projects in our project management software to provide clarity for other team members

2. Coordination and execution of shovel-ready projects

a. Maintain an open line of communication with public and private land managers throughout the lifecycle of all projects
b. Identify professional trail builders to construct the Velomont Trail with support from the VTC executive director
c. Coordinate with general contractors and other subcontractors to prepare for and complete new huts along the Velomont Trail with support from the VHA executive director
d. Confirm deliverables for each trail segment and hut project with signed agreements
e. Monitor trail and hut build progress, report any delays or hurdles to the VTC and VHC executive directors

f. Log builders’ progress and hours to ensure accurate reporting
g. Coordinate volunteer days for trail and hut work

3. Miscellaneous:

a. Support leadership team in the preparation of annual budgets
b. Assist in project analysis as needed
c. Other duties as assigned

Skills & qualifications shall include

Required:

• Minimum two years of trail building (volunteer work acceptable)
• Understanding of trail construction best practices and sustainable building methods
• Strong analytical skills, stellar attention to detail and concern for accuracy; ability to work well with others as part of team during cyclical periods of high demand; good
  organizational and time management skills, and work well independently;
• Systems-oriented, collaborative, creative thinker who is passionate about the mission of Velomont Trail and Vermont Huts

Preferred:

• Professional trail building experience
• Experience with GIS (ArcGIS), GPS systems, route finding/navigating, and map reading:
• Experience with databases and document management systems;
• Understanding of federal, state, and local permit processes
• Construction experience (ideally with a carpentry background)
• Ability to read construction drawings and site plans
• Project management experience

• Competitive salary: $50,000 – $60,000 depending on experience
• 401k contributions (10% of salary) and home office reimbursements
• Three weeks paid time off (increases to four weeks after one year of employment and five weeks after five years)
