Sustainable Peace Foundation (SPF) is an Iraqi Non-governmental Organisation (NGO) striving to build and sustain peace through vertical and horizontal approaches and participatory methods; addressing root causes of tensions and conflicts challenging positive peace in Iraq. SPF strives to achieve this by working on the grassroots level to reinstate and strengthen the lost trust between Iraq’s diverse ethno-religious communities; increase community resilience, empower and building the capacities of the very effected communities so they can mitigate and transform conflicts through dialogue and non-violent means.

SPF strives to achieve these objectives by working with vulnerable groups such as, youth, women and girls, people with special needs and IDPs through developing their capacities to take leadership roles and to actively participate in the peace and reconciliation processes; economically empower communities by offering them vocational trainings and providing them with livelihood means to ensure stability and a dignified living standard.

SPF also strives to engage local authority and security actors with the local communities through advocacy, round table dialogue sessions and developing local peace mechanisms and structures capable to acts as soundboards conveying their communities’ needs and challenges. Another pillar of SPF’s efforts is to support and capacitate Iraq’s civil society for example, SPF provide the technical coordination and the secretariat of Nineveh Peace Forum, which it is a founder.  

SPF also provides consultations for local and international NGOs on peacebuilding and social cohesion programming, such as: context analysis, needs assessments, actor and service mapping etc.

SPF’s focuses on minority protection, but through its Do-no-Harm approach, which ensures that SPF programming and implementation creates cohesion instead of doing harm.

PROJECT AIMS:
The “Muruna (Resilience): Youth for Diversity and Culture” project, located in Mosul District of Nineveh Governorate, aims to empower youth to promote diversity, non-violence, civic participation, and income generation. Through the Qellayta Youth Centre for Diversity and Culture, SPF will engage young men and women from Mosul l. The project includes training in social cohesion and peacebuilding, forming a music group for local and regional performances, and developing a cultural tour guide program. The initiative seeks to restore community trust and generate income for participants, indirectly benefiting the broader community, including displaced populations.in artistic and cultural activities to drive social cohesion and peacebuilding.

Duties and Assignments:

The Project Manager will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing the project implementation according to the outlined activities and timelines.
  • Coordinating with local authorities, civil society actors, academics, cultural historians, and other stakeholders.
  • Managing the selection and training of youth participants.
  • Ensuring gender mainstreaming and proactive engagement of both young men and women.
  • Organising musical and cultural events and activities.
  • Monitoring and evaluating project progress, including data collection and reporting.
  • Addressing any risks and challenges that arise during the project.
  • Ensuring compliance with SPF’s policies on Do-no-Harm, GBV, and PSEA.
  • Providing regular updates and reports to the Sustainable Peace Foundation management and the donor.

Terms of Reference:

  • Project Management: Ensure the project is executed efficiently, within budget, and on time.
  • Coordination: Facilitate communication and collaboration between stakeholders and project participants.
  • Capacity Building: Oversee the training workshops and capacity-building activities for youth.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Develop and implement a MEAL plan, including pre- and post-evaluation tests, direct observations, and regular progress reports.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks to project success and staff safety, and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Reporting: Provide detailed progress reports to stakeholders, including the SPF management and the donor.
  • Community Engagement: Foster strong relationships with local communities, ensuring their involvement and support.

 

Essential Skills Required from the Project Manager

  • Project Management: Proven experience in managing large-scale projects, especially in conflict-affected areas.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to liaise effectively with stakeholders, participants, and community leaders.
  • Training and Facilitation: Ability to design and conduct training workshops, especially in social cohesion, peacebuilding, and capacity building.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Strong skills in developing and implementing MEAL plans, with attention to detail in data collection and analysis.
  • Risk Management: Competence in identifying risks and developing appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Deep understanding of the local context and cultural dynamics, with a commitment to gender mainstreaming and inclusive practices.
  • Leadership: Strong leadership and team management skills to guide project staff and volunteers effectively.
