Project Manager
Permanent contract
The University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) is a globally influential institute within the University of Cambridge working on a mission to develop leadership and solutions towards a sustainable economy.
CISL’s Brussels office, CISL Europe, works with leading businesses and policymakers to deliver the transition towards a prosperous, climate neutral and nature positive EU through influential projects and advocacy. CISL Europe leads the work of the European Corporate Leaders Group. It convenes and fosters partnerships with the Green Growth Partnership and group of national business networks working on climate. CISL Europe is the EU policy lead of the international We Mean Business Coalition.
About the role
- Do you want to be an advocate for increased climate ambition and sustainability in the EU, working with businesses and policymakers?
- Do you enjoy delivering a variety of impactful projects and fostering partnerships?
- Do you want to work for an organisation that will share your sense of purpose and make an impact in the world?
This exciting role is based in the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL)’s Brussels office, CISL Europe. It is an opportunity to join a dynamic team and work across a variety of environments – with businesses, national and global business networks and decisionmakers.
The successful candidate will support the team’s Senior Programme Manager work to mobilise businesses to drive change on climate, sustainability, and nature through advocacy. The candidate will foster cooperation between businesses and policymakers and have the responsibility for delivering a wide variety of projects with a focus on the EU, and some support on international processes.
The role would include:
- Project managing various projects including policy projects, events, statements and publications.
- Supporting the mobilisation of progressive business voices for climate related advocacy
- Leading the organisation of events under the flagship of the Green Growth Partnership including the annual Green Growth Summit, with Environment and Climate Ministers and high level business officials.
- Supporting the implementation of the EU advocacy strategy of the We Mean Business Coalition on issues like the 2040 climate target and progressive business priorities for the next EU institutions.
- Supporting the convening, coordination and cooperation of national business networks working together to achieve the transition towards a climate neutral economy
- Managing project budgets
- Supporting the development of grant proposals and grant reporting
To note this is an atypical role for a University Project Manager – it is more focused on advocacy projects, outreach, administrative and events, projects coordination and engagement than academic research projects.
Applicants must be committed to the values that underpin CISL’s work. You will be someone who has:
- Strong experience in project management
- Understanding of the EU policy sphere, engagement and advocacy with decision makers, and ideally European climate and sustainability policy
- Ability to manage multiple projects and events with overlapping deadlines
- Very good interpersonal skills – ability to foster partnerships between different organisations
- Experience of managing project budgets
- Experience of event management, ideally including webinars and in-person events
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, demonstrating a high proficiency in English. Additional European languages are desirable.
- Ability to work pro-actively toward project deliverables and deadlines.
- Competence across standard software packages including MS Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, plus ideally experience of working with a Client Relationship Management system.
