About The Role

We have an exciting opportunity to oversee the management of a 2 year funded project: Wetter
For Waders: Enhancing Somerset’s Coastal Wetlands. You’ll be part of our team based at the Steart
Marshes and Bridgwater Bay National Nature Reserves. A predominantly capital based project which
will include the coordination and management of internal resources, contractors and
consultants.

This is a fixed term contract until 28th February 2026. This role is part time working
22.5 hours a week across 3 days and is suitable for hybrid working with the requirement to spend 2
days a week on site.

As one of the largest of wetlands managed by WWT and an integral coastal
component of the wider Somerset landscape, this is a fantastic opportunity to oversee wetland
conservation, restoration and creation. Be on the cutting edge of large scale management
interventions supporting the increase in abundance of rare and protected wetland habitats and
species.

Wetter For Waders is funded by the Government’s Species Survival Fund. The fund was developed by
Defra and its Arm’s-Length Bodies. It is being delivered by The National Lottery Heritage Fund in
partnership with Natural England and the Environment Agency.

About You

To join as our Project Manager you’ll bring:

  • Degree-level qualification in a relevant field
  • Current driving licence.
  • Knowledge of wetland ecosystems for example the different types, their hydrology, soils,
    topography and ecology
  • Experience of successful project management and report production
  • Experience in networking, partnership building and relationship management
  • Demonstrable experience of implementing effective governance arrangements to ensure timely
decision making, effective risk management, and compliance with wider policies and procedures.
  • Excellent IT skills including use of Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

We are looking for a person with an understanding of matrix management, an ability to lead,
manage and motivate a project team, work effectively with others, engage multi-functional and
cross-directorate teams in project delivery. You will oversee the management of consultants and
contractors, take responsibility for projects and prioritise resources accordingly whilst working
alongside the site manager. With excellent self-management skills to enable independent working,
autonomously and as part of a team, using initiative and being flexible and adaptable.
