Position Description
This is a one-year term position from hire date.
Reporting to the HDS CTO, with dotted line reporting to the HDS Director of Communication, the Project Manager will manage the migration of HDS websites to a new technology platform. The Drupal-based platform, HarvardSites, will succeed the current platform (called OpenScholar) by August 2025. This position delivers customer service of the highest caliber and has the capacity to function in a highly changing, fast-paced environment.
Project Management
Works directly with HDS Communications, HDS IT & Media Services, Harvard Web Publishing, and project teams to manage the migration of the major HDS OpenScholar websites (flagship site, WSRP, CSWR, RPL, HDS Library, HDS News Archive, and the community intranet)
Creates schedule, project milestones, and ensures on-time, on-budget, in-scope delivery of the migrated websites
Schedules and manages project meetings, agendas, deadlines and deliverables
Develops project change requests/plans as needed
Keeps clients and colleagues informed of project status and accomplishments
Project Development
Represents user’s vision and business requirements, and advocates for enhancements to reflect that vision
Engages with faculty, staff, and other constituents to collect information on and identify user behaviors, gaps, trends, and patterns that might impact web publishing solutions
Analyzes support trends and user experience feedback and inputs into the product vision and roadmap
Content Consulting
Understands the capabilities and functionality of the new HarvardSites platform to recommend content and delivery opportunities (e.g., tie-ins to new multimedia tools, social media, and generative AI)
Acts as primary web editor for the flagship site for the duration of the project: fields content requests, makes updates, coordinates with Communications writers, photographers, videographers and designers to add and update content
Support
Provides prompt direct support to HDS Communications, HDS IT & Media Services, and other HDS web editors, including email, phone, and in-person support
Diagnoses issues with tools and services and escalates to both internal and external support services as appropriate
Outreach & Communications
Explores and adopts techniques and web publishing best practices at HDS, Harvard, and beyond
Participates in and facilitates/convenes communities of practice and other partnerships at HDS and Harvard
Process Improvement and Strategy
Identifies opportunities for business process improvements
Documents standard operating procedures and resource management policies
Develops/reviews tools and best practices for project intake, management, execution, and stabilization
Basic Qualifications

Basic Qualifications (continued):
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
3+ years of relevant experience, particularly in a scaled support environment.
A strong understanding of web technologies, web content management tools (preferably Drupal).

Experience working in a Higher Education environment.
A general understanding of social tools and traffic analytics (preferably Google Analytics).
Familiarity with Photoshop, HTML and CSS a plus.
Familiarity with project management methodologies, and best practices in web design, usability and user experience.

Working Conditions
This is a hybrid position based in Cambridge, MA. All HDS positions have a regular schedule of Monday – Friday, 9am – 5 pm. While the work is expected to be done primarily remotely, it does require the ability to be on site occasionally. Hybrid schedules are subject to business needs and manager and HR review/approval. HDS may adjust flex schedules as necessary or appropriate. Harvard has an established Flexwork Policy .

Starting salaries typically fall in the lower half of the salary range; however, they are ultimately determined by the scope of the position, the candidate’s relevant experience, and internal equity.

Work Format Details
This is a hybrid position that is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Work is expected to be performed in an office setting, but may be remote, as directed by HDS. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which are currently Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Additional details will be discussed during the interview process.
