Position: Project Officer – Habitats (Conservation and Policy Department, Full-time, 12 months Fixed-term contract)

Salary: £31,668 (Inclusive of London weighting)

Location: ZSL Regents Park

Overview of the Role

The post-holder will deliver project activities which contribute to the recovery of UK wetland ecosystems. The post-holder will have a combination of office-based and site-based responsibilities focussed on coastal habitat conservation as noted in the Key Responsibilities section. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivery of field activities to facilitate recovery of coastal habitats e.g., seagrass, saltmarsh, and native oyster
  • Coordination and safe leading of interns and volunteers in the field to deliver practical tasks in potentially challenging environmental conditions
  • Project administration including licence and permit applications for field activities
  • Preparation of scientific/technical outputs which will require accurate data input and management, data analysis, GIS mapping, interpretation, and communication of the findings as appropriate to the audience

The ideal candidate will:

Be/have:

  • Educated to MSc degree level in marine conservation/environmental or natural sciences/ecology, or related subject, or equivalent qualification, or demonstrate such a level of equivalent qualifications and experience through relevant practical work experience
  • Experience undertaking scientific fieldwork in challenging environments
  • Proven experience in managing large datasets, undertaking data analysis and preparation of scientific reports
  • Advanced skills in using MS Office packages, specifically Excel and PowerPoint, or equivalent software packages will be acceptable
  • Good knowledge and experience in GIS
  • Ability to communicate with a range of audiences
  • Able to demonstrate high accuracy and attention to detail whether in the form of documentation or data inputting
  • Familiarity with managing competing priorities and delegating effectively
  • Full UK driving licence

This post will require extensive outside working with direct exposure to the weather and challenging environmental conditions including rough terrain and some lifting of equipment.

This post requires a moderate number of long days in the field including early starts and late finishes. Occasional work during evenings and weekends.

This post is a blended role for office (Regent’s Park), field work, with some opportunity for occasional home working.
