Job Description

Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director General Education and of Director of Division for Peace and Sustainable Development, and the overall supervision of Chief of Section of Education for Sustainable Development, and the direct supervision of Programme Specialist in charge of climate change education and the Secretariat of the Greening Education Partnership (GEP), the incumbent will contribute to implementing the ESD for 2030 framework through the work focused on climate change education.

In particular, she/he will:

Contribute to coordinating the work related to the Secretariat of the Greening Education Partnership, especially in support for the Advisory Group and the Working Groups, in cooperation with UN entities, Member States, multilateral agencies, civil society organizations and other partners.
Contribute to coordinating the work of UNESCO within Education Sector and beyond in both HQ and the field related to climate change education.
Contribute to the development of activities related to the Greening Education Partnership, including organizing activities related to knowledge sharing & learning, collaboration, advocacy and M&E, resource mobilization, drafting reports and other communication material.
Lead the development and rolling out of a youth-co-created greening curriculum guidance in cooperation with a group of experts, education authorities and stakeholders in the pilot countries and UNESCO field offices.
Contribute to the country-level implementation of the “Climate Smart Education Systems Initiative” led by Global Partnership for Education, UNESCO and Save the Children, in cooperation with UNESCO field offices and in-country partners.

Required Qualifications:
Education:

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in education, environment, sustainable development, or related fields.

Work experience:

Minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible, relevant work experience in the field of education, sustainable development and/or policy, including in national or local-level project implementation.
Experience in designing, managing, monitoring and evaluating programmes and projects.
Experience in outreach activities and partnerships/network building including at international level.

Skills:

Familiarity with Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and climate change education.
Statistics knowledge and skills.
Strong analytical and drafting skills.
Ability to think critically and innovatively.
Demonstrated capacity to work under tight deadlines.
Ability to maintain effective collegial relations in a multi-cultural setting and to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment.
Excellent IT skills to carry out the work.
Great flexibility working with various stakeholders under different timeframes and with competing priorities.
