Project Officer – Active Steps (Bath and North East Somerset)

  • £28,211 per annum (pro rata for part time hours)
  • Ref: SUS4223
  • 26.25 hours (3.5 days) per week – weekend working will be required.
  • Base: Across the Somer Valley, the healthy living centre in Radstock (main Hub), and
    other local workspaces within the project area.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Sustrans Team and work on The Active Way, an innovative Active Travel Social
Prescribing Project. As part of this project, you will deliver a series of Active Steps 10-week
courses which aim to increase participants physical activity levels through walking and
cycling, as well as improving their mental wellbeing and growing their confidence. Working
closely with Bath and North East Somerset (BaNES) Council and other service providers and
partners, you will share your passion and enthusiasm for walking and cycling to make a positive
impact on people’s health and wellbeing.

As the Project Officer you will be working with people of all ages and walks of life who have
referred themselves, or been referred from community services, health professional and other
routes. You will encourage and support them to engage with a range of walking and cycling
activities. Gaining an understanding of each participants abilities and needs and develop a
tailored programme for each participant. 

The support you will provide will include setting up and delivering weekly social group walks
and cycle rides to build up their everyday physical activity, skills and confidence, and
providing ongoing mentoring and support throughout the course.

You will build relationships with key people, organisations and settings in the local area, to
raise awareness and understanding of Active Steps and The Active Ways project. You will engage
with local communities through workshops, events and talks to promote Active Steps and motivate
and enthuse people to join the project. You will work alongside the Sustrans Volunteers, BaNES
Council and other service providers.

This role will require travel and work at locations as necessary to undertake projects on
behalf of Sustrans.

About you

You should have experience of engaging with a diverse range of people of all ages and
abilities, coaching and motivating people to make positive change as well as leading group
activities and event planning. We ask you to show your experience of engaging with people in
different settings such as workplaces, schools, and community groups, and collaborating with
partners from different sectors. 

You will be capable of working on your own initiative and manage your own workloads as well as
being adaptable and solution focused. You will also work effectively as part of a team, working
alongside and supporting volunteers and colleagues to deliver your activities.
