OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

Under the authority and general direction of the Director and Representative of UNESCO Office in Brazil, and the immediate supervision and technical guidance of the National Professional Officer SHS/EO, the incumbent will carry out the following activities:

Long Description

  • Provide support to the Director of UNESCO Office in Brazil and to the Executive Officer in all activities pertaining to the G-20 in Brazil.
  • Collect data and elaborate reports and prospective studies to provide inputs and support the Director and the Programme area on UNESCO’s themes of mandate, especially regarding the G-20 agenda in Brazil.
  • Support UNESCO’s participation in the G-20 working groups and all related meetings, taking notes and preparing reports, and keeping track of all activities.
  • Provide inputs to the elaboration of contents, anticipating information and data, to support UNESCO’s participation in the G-20.

Long Description

  • Prepare drafts of correspondences, technical presentations, speeches, articles, documents, reports and papers for review by the supervisor.
  • Provide suggestions for innovative and updated data to be included in UNESCO’s website.
  • Participate as note-taker during missions and meetings, as requested.
  • Maintain and keep current registers and control files updated.
  • Any additional activities that may be required to ensure the success of the work team.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Advanced University degree (equivalent to Masters or Post-graduate studies) in the Human Sciences or related areas, such as International Relations, Political Sciences, Law.

Work Experience

  • Minimum of four years of previous experience in elaborating reports and/or studies, providing management advisory services, with hands-on experience with strategic planning and programming processes at the national or international level.

Languages

  • The position requires proficiency in Portuguese and English.

Skills and Competencies

  • Computer literacy and knowledge of Word, Excel and Power Point;
  • Ability to write in a clear and concise manner and to communicate effectively orally;
  • Proactivity, initiative and knowledge in collecting data for the elaboration of reports in UNESCO’s five thematic areas: Education, Natural Sciences, Social and Human Sciences, Culture, Communication and Information;
  • Respect for cultural diversity, gender, religion, race, nationality and age;
  • Ability to manage processes, maintain accurate records, interpret and analyze a wide variety of data.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Specialized training or courses in the fields related to this position or project management.

Work Experience

  • Previous experience within the UN System, Embassies or other international cooperation organizations or within the Government, will be highly valued;
  • Broad and up-to-date knowledge of specific themes within UNESCO’s areas of mandate.

Languages

  • Working knowledge of another official language of UNESCO (French or Spanish).

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

This assignment is of full-time nature (Monday to Thursday: 8h30 to 12h30 / 14h to 18h; Friday: 8h30 to 14h).

For this position, the monthly remuneration, which will be paid in local currency, will be BRL 13.877,07.

The initial contract is intended for the year 2024 and shall be linked to a project funding source which is expected to be renewed. Any contract renewal shall be dependent upon budgetary availability and satisfactory services.
