The Role

The Project Officer – Housing Policy Partnerships is a key member of the NATSIHA team, responsible for leading and coordinating various housing projects and initiatives. The HPP is a critical initiative under Priority Reform One of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap. This partnership seeks to address the critical issue of housing across Australia for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The HPP is made up of First Nations community representatives and Senior Executives from across Commonwealth and all State and Territory Governments.

  • Contribute to the development of comprehensive project plans, defining scope, objectives, deliverables, and timelines.
  • Efficiently coordinate project activities, ensuring task assignment, deadline adherence, and appropriate resource allocation. Monitor progress, identify risks, and propose effective solutions for project success.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, encompassing plans, schedules, meeting minutes, and progress reports.
  • Prepare regular project status reports, highlighting key milestones, risks, and achievements. Ensure proper documentation of project outcomes, lessons learned, and best practices for future reference.
  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among project team members, stakeholders, and external partners. Coordinate meetings, workshops, and presentations to engage stakeholders and gather feedback.
  • Address stakeholder concerns, ensuring their continuous involvement throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Assist in budget planning and monitoring, ensuring adherence to allocated budgets. Coordinate with relevant departments to allocate resources effectively, identifying and addressing resource gaps to optimise utilisation.
  • Ensure project deliverables consistently meet high-quality standards, complying with policies, regulations, and industry best practices.

Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge of relevant policies, regulations and funding sources related to indigenous housing
  • A demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Housing Sector and the related challenges community housing providers face with their ‘day to day’ functions and performance of their role and responsibilities
  • Bachelor degree in relevant field or equivalent work experience
  • Experience in project management, preferably in housing or community development
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage with diverse stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

NATSIHA will lead the way in implementing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Housing Data Strategy that is underpinned by the principles of Indigenous Data Sovereignty and will support capability building across the sector to harness data as a cultural, strategic and economic asset.
