ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Internews is seeking a Sri Lanka-based Project Officer for its Indo-Pacific Media Resilience project, a regional project supported by the European Union on media capacity-building and countering and monitoring disinformation. Reporting to the Project Manager, the Project Officer will be responsible for providing program, logistical, and administrative support to the project and its partners, especially on activities to be implemented in Sri Lanka and in the project’s focus countries.

LOGISTICS

This is a remote-based role. Our preferred candidate should be based in Colombo, Sri Lanka. This is a limited-duration position, with an expected end date of 15 July 2026.

DAY-TO-DAY TASKS will include:

  • Coordinate with the project manager and the project team on program needs, targets, and other tasks related to activities to be implemented in Sri Lanka and in other focus countries.
  • Build strong working relationships and foster co-learning and collaborative environment with and among local and regional partners for the project and other relevant Internews initiatives.
  • Prepare plans, documents, and reports related to project activities to be implemented in Sri Lanka and in other focus countries.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders and partners to set up virtual and in-person meetings, convenings, and other activities related to the project.
  • Organize training and events, including agenda-creation, participants invitation, logistical preparations, and documentation support.
  • Support the Project Manager and the project team on preparing reports and updates for the donor.
  • Support in MEL needs, including coordinating with partners on activity reporting and other MEL-related tasks.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for local and international events, trips, convenings, and other project-related activities.
  • Coordinate with finance and administration staff members (both at the country office and the regional office) on finance and admin-related matters.
  • Support subgrant package preparations, monitoring, and other compliance-related tasks.
  • Other relevant project-related and programming duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, social sciences or other related fields.
  • At least five years’ experience doing non-profit and/or media development and support work.
  • Good grasp of media and information landscape in Sri Lanka and in South and Southeast Asia.
  • Experience working with a remote team or in a remote setup.
  • Experience in organizing events, trainings, meetings, and other activities involving different stakeholders and partners.
  • Fluency in English is essential, including excellent English writing skills at a publishable standard.
  • Sensitivity to cross-cultural dynamics in the workplace and experience providing technical support to a cross-section of staff and local partners.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and information management skills.
  • Must be self-reliant, resourceful, good problem-solver, good-humored, and flexible.
  • Ability to work independently, efficiently and reliably, to a high standard and to deadline.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team across the globe.
  • Willingness to travel to project areas as required.

Preferred

  • Note: Candidates who do not have these preferred qualifications, but who are interested and willing to learn, are encouraged to apply.
  • Master’s degree in relevant fields or with professional training in project management or journalism is preferred.
  • Experience working with EU-funded projects is highly preferred.
