Job Overview

The Project officer ( Livestock ) will play a key role in improving the livelihoods and food security of vulnerable communities by managing and supporting livestock-related projects. This involves providing technical assistance, capacity-building, and direct support to beneficiaries engaged in livestock farming, veterinary care, and animal husbandry. The position holder will responsible for project planning, implementation and reporting, including coordination with local authorities , communities , registration and selection of beneficiaries and completion of project according to set goals and objectives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Project Implementation

  • Support the planning, implementation, and monitoring of livestock activities within the project framework.
  • Conduct livestock needs assessments and determine appropriate interventions to enhance productivity and resilience.
  • Distribute livestock and inputs (e.g., feed, medication) to target beneficiaries in line with project goals.

Capacity Building

  • Provide technical support and training to farmers on livestock management practices, animal health, feeding, breeding, and disease control.
  • Develop and deliver training materials and workshops to build the capacities of communities and project staff.

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor livestock-related activities and provide timely support and guidance to beneficiaries.
  • Track project progress, documenting successes, challenges, and lessons learned.
  • Collect, analyze, and report on data related to livestock performance, health, and production.
 

Coordination and Reporting

  • Liaise with local authorities DoLSA, DoA Mayor office, JCF, veterinary services, and other stakeholders to ensure effective coordination of livestock initiatives.
  • Prepare detailed and timely reports on livestock activities, including project progress reports and case studies.
  • Ensure proper documentation and accountability of project activities, resources, and expenditures.

Beneficiary Support and Community Engagement

  • Conduct community mobilization and awareness campaigns on good livestock practices.
  • Provide ongoing technical support to livestock farmers, addressing issues such as diseases, feed shortages, and marketing of livestock products.
  • Ensure that gender and protection principles are main streamed in livestock interventions.

Veterinary Care and Animal Health

  • Oversee the health management of livestock, ensuring regular veterinary care such as vaccinations, treatments, and parasite control.
  • Train and supervise local veterinary workers and para-veterinarians engaged in the project.

Emergency Response

  • Respond to livestock emergencies, such as disease outbreaks or natural disasters, by providing timely interventions and coordination with relevant stakeholders.

 

 

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Job Requirements

Education:  Bachelor’s degree in any area of knowledge, preferably in development studies, business administration, economics, social sciences, veterinary Science, Animal Husbandry, Agriculture, or a related field.

Experience

  • At least 3 years of experience in providing technical supervision and support for the implementation of livelihoods project working with livestock management in a development or humanitarian context, preferably within an NGO.
  • Knowledge of the Iraqi Labor law and policies.
  • Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform; willing to travel to the project locations in Nineveh.
  • Well-developed organizational and planning skills.
  • Punctuality and respect for rules and procedures.
  • Must be able to maintain highest level of confidentiality regarding work-related information and data.
  • Excellent coordination and analytical skills. Experience in conflict resolution and problem solving is an asset.
  • Experience in project management, planning, and reporting.
  • Ability to work with diverse communities and manage relationships with stakeholders.

Languages

Excellent written and spoken Arabic and English Ability to communicate in English to at least an Intermediate level. Additional languages are a bonus.
