The Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Protection Peak (QATSICPP) is the peak body for youth justice in Queensland. As the peak we work with government and key partners to create safer communities and change the life trajectory of young people who interact with the criminal justice system.
About the role
The Project Officer – Youth Justice (YJ) plays a pivotal role within QATSICPP, contributing to various initiatives aimed at supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. This position involves fostering partnerships, developing resources, and implementing strategies to both support and enhance the capacity and capability of community-controlled organisations across different programs and projects.
Typical Duties and responsibilities:
- Engage with stakeholders, including community-controlled organisations, government agencies and key partners, to build and maintain productive relationships. Inclusive of an ability to analyse issues impacting on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and take a considered solutions focussed approach.
- Develop high-quality resources, tools, and initiatives to support the implementation of culturally safe and high-quality service delivery to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, youth and families.
- Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and partners to ensure effective collaboration and knowledge-sharing. Inclusive of establishing, coordinating and maintenance of various stakeholder working groups, community of practices and forums.
- Lead projects related to enhancing service delivery to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, youth and families collaboratively with the community-controlled sector and other key stakeholders. Inclusive of design and development of project and communications documentation/reports, coordinating and delivering workshops and meeting project milestones.
Desired skills, experience, and capabilities:
- Previous experience in child protection and/or youth justice systems and services, ideally in the community-controlled sector.
- A strong understanding of child protection and/or youth justice systems and reforms.
- Knowledge of system and practice issues impacting on quality service delivery to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.
- Demonstrated commitment to the excellence and cultural integrity of the community-controlled sector.
- Exceptional organisational skills, with the ability to work independently, manage workloads, and meet deadlines effectively.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with a focus on cooperative and collaborative teamwork.
- Proven ability to research, analyse complex material, and develop innovative solutions.
- Capacity for continuous improvement and willingness to embrace innovative work practices.
Mandatory requirements:
- Possession of a degree and/or post graduate studies in Social Science, Social Policy or Human Services is highly desirable.
- A current valid Queensland Working with Children’s Card (Blue Card) or eligible to apply.
- Drivers Licence
- Ability to travel within Queensland to support activities.
