The FAO Representation in Ghana is the body in charge of ensuring liaison between FAO and the Government of Ghana and is the first port of call for analysing and appraising government assistance requests; identifying, formulating, implementing and monitoring all FAO programmes and projects; managing all phases of the project cycle for national projects for which operational and budget holder responsibilities have been assigned by the Technical Cooperation Department; identifying opportunities for collaboration, and mobilizing technical and operational support from the Regional Office, Headquarters and other funding sources as appropriate. The FAO Ghana Office has an Assistant FAOR responsible for coordinating all activities relating to programmes of the Office.
Tasks and responsibilities:

  • The driver, working under the overall supervision and guidance of the FAO Representative to Ghana, the technical supervision of the Lead Technical Officer (LTO), and under the direct supervision Field Office Manager and AFAOR in charge of Programme and in close collaboration with the Technical Adviser and Project Steering Committee, will lead the coordination and management of the project, and will carry out the following duties.
  • Drive the project staff and officers on official trips, and drive for the FAO project Technical Advisor and his/her visitors on occasions, as necessary.
  • Meet staff and official visitors at arrival point; hotel check-in and other local formalities.
  • Log official trips, daily mileage, fuel consumption, transportation/vehicle and report vehicle faults for servicing, repairs, etc.
  • Ensure day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle(s); checks oil, water, battery, tires, etc.; perform minor repairs and timely arrange for any other repairs necessary to keep the vehicle safe and technically sound at all times; maintain the vehicle(s) in clean conditions.
  • Handle local and organizational formalities when involved in an accident; ensure that in this case all organizational and local/country rules, regulations and procedures are followed correctly.
  • Collect and deliver mail, documents, pouches and other communications/items from and to the country office; go to the post office, airport, other UN agencies, institutions, banks, project sites, etc. to take and deliver items and communications; keep records as required.
  • When needed, assist the project team in performing simple clerical duties such as making and answering telephone calls, making photocopies, keeping records, etc.
  • Perform other related duties as required

Candidates Will Be Assessed Against The Following:
Minimum Requirements

  • Senior High School Certificate or equivalent qualification
  • Valid Driving license B or higher
  • At least 2 years of experience driving in the UN and other multinational and international organizations 
  • Working knowledge of English (level C) 
  • National of Ghana

Technical/Functional Skills:

  • Familiarity with driving in northern Ghana is an added advantage  
  • Extent and relevance of experience in management of computer programs such as Excel, Word, Power Point and statistical software.
  • High communication skills, both verbal and written, negotiation, leadership, vision, strategy, coordination and teamwork
  • Two years of relevant field experience as project driver is considered an asset
