Department Description
Graduate Studies (GS) advocates on behalf of graduate students and postdoctoral scholars, supports the faculty and staff engaged in delivering graduate education, and administers academic and administrative policies affecting graduate students and postdoctoral scholars that foster a culturally and intellectually diverse environment characterized by high academic standards. Graduate Studies at UC Davis includes more than 100 dynamic degree programs, and a diverse and interactive global student.

Job Summary
This position reports to the Director of Policy & Program Initiatives and serves as primary liaison to Academic Senate/Graduate Council for shared governance of graduate education. The Graduate Program Analyst applies an in-depth understanding of a broad range of policies and issues relating to graduate education and postdoctoral scholars to help Graduate Studies leadership and staff, program faculty, graduate students, and postdocs to resolve problems that are complex in nature and diverse in scope. Conducts research and analysis on a wide variety of topics in support of new initiatives and communicates findings in a variety of formats including reports, web-hosted data, presentations, and proposals.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • First 30 days in office and then hybrid schedule optional as approved by supervisor.
  • Division flexible/hybrid schedule available as approved by the Vice Provost/Dean.
  • Work occasional overtime including evenings, nights, and weekends.
  • Restricted vacation during peak periods.
  • May be required to work in a busy, open, and/or shared office environment with multiple and constant interruptions, traffic, and noise from computers, printers, ringing telephones, and conversations.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    Minimum Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in higher education in a policy, or graduate education-related role.
  • Experience in research analysis, especially in the area of higher education and/or academic governance.
    Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Time management skills to manage, track and work on multiple and simultaneous complex tasks, under competing deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and maintain confidentiality.
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    Preferred Education/Experience:
  • Experience with University of California and UC Davis organization, units, resources, facilities, and student information systems including Graduate Studies managed applications systems such as Program and Roles Manager (PRM), Programs Manager, Student Progress Assessment (SPA), etc.
    Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
  • Knowledge of UC Davis and UC policies related to graduate education, graduate research, and postdoctoral scholars.
  • Knowledge of UC Davis graduate programs and structures (graduate groups and departmentally-based programs).
