Australian Wildlife Conservancy (AWC) is a global leader in conservation, providing hope for Australia’s wildlife with a science-informed, land management partnership approach which delivers high impact results. We protect endangered wildlife in iconic regions such as the Kimberley, Cape York, the Top End and Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre.

AWC’s mission – to deliver effective conservation for all native animal species and their habitats – is achieved by:

  • Operations – delivering effective large-scale land management including fire management, feral animal control, weed control and infrastructure management.
  • Science – delivering the largest national biological survey program with a focus on measuring the population of indicator species and the extent of threatening processes as well as conducting research on key issues such as feral cat control.
  • Fundraising – mobilising finance (primarily, tax-deductible donations) from the general public and philanthropists including through effective communication of field updates from around the AWC estate.

About the role

The Prospect Researcher will help AWC identify the next generation of supporters and optimise the potential of existing supporters. Active, strategic research and analysis of prospective supporters is a vital process in ensuring the long-term financial sustainability of AWC and enabling us to reach our fundraising objectives.

Guided by fundraising best practice, the position will oversee all aspects of prospect research and pipeline management, to facilitate the successful identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors and prospects. This position will be the main point of contact for prospect research requests, prospect assignment requests and portfolio reporting. Conducting fundraising research using business information, media, due diligence and biographic research tools to analyse and identify individuals, foundations and corporations capable of providing significant support to the Australian Wildlife Conservancy.

Duties of this role, within the broader context of the Development Operations team, include:

  • Optimise fundraising.
  • Support effective fundraising and communication with AWC supporters.
  • Development and implementation of prospect research procedures and processes.

CRITICAL COMPETENCIES

  1. A working understanding of the principles of philanthropy: including frontline fundraising and prospect management practices. An interest in and curiosity for fundraising and development best-practice.
  2. Proven prospect research and data analysis skills: a solution focused strategic thinker with demonstrated attention to detail and the ability to investigate, analyse and synthesise large quantities of information and data.
  3. A passion and curiosity for change: including comfort with ambiguity, challenging the status quo, and a commitment to quality.
  4. Getting things done: Strong organisational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritise work effectively to deliver quality outcomes.
  5. Strong written and verbal communication skills: critical thinker with proven analytical abilities, strong written and oral communication skills.
  6. Administration/compliance: demonstrated ability to contribute to analytical reports, policies, and procedures; ability to comply with organisational policies and standards as well as industry regulations and guidelines (including data privacy and cyber security).

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline
  2. Experience in a similar role and an ambition to drive philanthropic success through prospect research, data analysis and strategic thinking.

PLEASE NOTE: this position part time at 0.8 FTE is open to a fixed term or permanent tenure. Based out of Subiaco, however open to the Melbourne and Sydney for the right candidate.
