The Protection Assistant will be systematically and regularly collecting, verifying and analyzing information over an extended period of time in order to identify violations of rights and protection risks for populations of concern for the purpose of informing effective responses. The monitoring will target returnees, IDPs and host communities in Mogadishu.

- Monitor, verify and document human rights violations and protection risks in the IDP sites
- Drafts weekly and monthly reports under the guidance of the supervisor and in line with the reporting mechanisms.
- Establish community Protection-Based Structures committees and capacitate them on how to handle community-level activities.
- Produces protection focused reports and follows-up on red flag protection-related issues;
- Analyse data and highlight trends and protection needs in reporting to Protection and Information Manager;
- Produce and submit weekly reports on activities and protection concerns identified.
- Under the guidance of direct supervisor, facilitate one-on-one interviews and focus group discussions with returnees, IDPs, host community members, state actors and service providers in the field on selected protection concerns.
- Conduct spot observation in areas where IDPs are living for inclusion in protection monitoring, using qualitative and quantitative methods.
- Keep records through the digital system of the urgent protection needs identified and the actions taken to assist affected Population.
- Refer cases with protection concerns to the case worker/community service worker, to ensure their protection needs are addressed.
- Track and document general conflict and displacement issues in DRC managed sites.
- Present progress reports on daily and weekly basis or as may be decided by supervisor.
- Support the Protection Information Management Officer in data entry and analysis.
- In conjunction with the local authorities/community, identify returnees at risk with specific needs, provide them with ad hoc immediate assistance, and refer them to specialized services as may be deemed necessary.
- Support protection officer in mapping of services and humanitarian needs.
- Support protection officer in conducting assessments on a need’s basis.
- Conduct other duties as assigned by supervisors
Experience, Education and technical competencies: (include years of experience).
- At least one-year previous NGO or humanitarian work experience.
- Diploma in social science or related fields
- Good data collection/analysis and reporting skills
- Experience using online data collection software Experience in protection monitoring and reporting
- Honest, hardworking and independent.
- Familiar with computers, Outlook, Excel and MS Word, mobile surveys
- Protection related experience not less than 1 years
- Good observational and Analytical skills.
Languages:
- Fluency in written and spoken Somali & English.
