DRC will provide emergency child protection services for children on the move in South Tunisia to respond to the pressing humanitarian needs. To prevent and respond to the risk of exploitation, violence, abuse and harm, DRC will establish a Child Friendly Space, in a mobile or static modality, to provide essential prevention activities, such as awareness raising and psychosocial support activities, as well as to ensure early identification and referrals of children and women at risk. The Protection Assistant – CFS facilitator will be responsible for ensuring quality implementation of CFS activities in accordance with DRC’s Child Protection Policy and the Child Protection in Emergencies Minimum Standards.
Responsibilities will include, but not necessarily be limited to the following:
Programming & Operations:
- Organize creative, educational, recreational activities on a daily basis for children, catering to the needs of children of different ages, gender and abilities.
- Design and implement psychosocial support activities for children (structured and unstructured) and support children’s play activities
- Support community events and awareness-raising activities conducted by the DRC protection team
- Conduct community sensitization and mobilization with regards to child protection
- Identification and referral of vulnerable children (unaccompanied/separated and children at risk)
- Contribute to DRC Child Protection monitoring activities
- Ensure that children feel comfortable, safe, and respected
- Participate in trainings and ongoing coaching with regularity and preparation; and incorporate relevant follow up and technical advice in day to day implementation
- Facilitate group and community-based child protection activities per DRC activity guidance and technical feedback, ensuring developmentally and contextually appropriate service delivery
- Conduct activities relevant for the development of the Child Protection and overall Protection programme per the request of the line manager in a manner consistent with trainings and technical guidance
- In coordination with the Team Leader and Officer, use solid participatory approaches with attention to age, gender, diversity, and vulnerability criteria, to facilitate meaningful dialogues that enable participants to self-identify protection concerns that affect their communities
- Adhere to DRC Child Safeguarding Policy and Safeguarding Policy Framework
Reporting:
- Respect data confidentiality and protection at the highest standard.
- Ensure proper use of tools and online platforms provided for effective reporting, in adherence with orientation and coaching by the Team Leader and PIM
- Collaborate with the MEAL teams in carrying out monitoring, evaluation, and feedback activities within the target areas.
Coordination and representation:
- In coordination with senior staff, represent DRC to a range of stakeholders including individual beneficiaries and community groups, humanitarian agencies, services providers, local authorities, etc. To this end, ensure professional standards and transparent communication to build trust and collaboration with concerned stakeholders.
- Collaborate and integrate with other DRC sectors during field implementation as needed and advised by the Protection Team Leader.
- Ensure interactions by staff with individual beneficiaries and community groups take place in environments and in ways that respect and promote safety, agency and dignity in accordance with professional standards for protection and humanitarian work.
Operations support:
- Support the coordination of program activities as they relate to logistics, administration, finance, or security as relevant, in coordination with the relevant departments.
- Ensure compliance with the relevant internal policies and directives.
About you
To be successful in this role we expect you to have:
- At least 1 year of professional experience in humanitarian interventions, preferably in child protection or a field requiring close work with children. Experience in related fields such as MHPSS and General Protection would also be considered.
- Experience in child protection activities within child friendly spaces and community-based approaches preferred, experience in other Protection and humanitarian activities requiring communication with groups diverse in age and gender will also be considered
- Demonstration of the competencies of the Child Protection in Humanitarian Action framework will be considered in the recruitment process.
- Familiarity with international protection and human rights legal standards, and CPiE Minimim Standards.
- Demonstrated capacity to effectively represent a humanitarian organization with the individuals and communities and build trust
- Basic use of MS Office applications.
- Fluency in written and spoken Arabic.
- Good Working knowledge of English will be an asset
