About the Job:
Under the direct supervision of the Protection Team Leader (TL), The Protection Assistant – Medical will be responsible for following up on the confirmed and referred victim assistant cases during their treatment in the hospital, and following up and reviewing the medical documentation needed from the hospital for each case.
Main Responsibilities:
Verification and Follow-up
- In coordination with the protection team, identify conflict-affected individuals whose condition requires to be prioritized for treatment.
- Support on immediate life-saving medical support to children and civilian adults who have incurred injuries as a result of the conflict.
- Verify the admission of victim assistant cases in hospitals.
- Support assessing and internally/externally referring victim assistance cases in need of additional support (e.g. artificial limbs and others).
- Follow-up daily on children/adults who are receiving, or have received, medical treatment through DRC, including conducting regular visits to the case, based on the beneficiary’s need.
- Consult with the designated beneficiary’s treatment providers (or potential treatment providers) to determine the appropriate course of action.
- Coordinate with the hospitals, prior to admission of the VA cases, and follow up on the availability of the needed services in the hospital.
- Review all claims/expenses from the hospitals and with the support of the management determine which charges are appropriate and should be paid.
- Coordinate with DRC’s protection team and the Team Leader to transfer patients when needed; request transportation, food, and accommodation allowances when needed.
- In coordination with the Protection Team Leader and the other Officers, receive referrals of victim assistance cases from hospitals/local partners/clusters/community and proceed with taking the initial approval and then follow up on admission of the VA cases in the hospitals.
Planning and Reporting
- Follow up on issuance and collecting medical reports/quotations for each of the confirmed, referred, and approved VA cases.
- Ensure the availability of a completed medical claim including bills, detailed disclosure, and medical reports for each case by the hospitals.
- Review all claims/expenses from the hospitals.
- Ensure compliance with the internal medical ceiling and promptly coordinate with the Protection Team if cases are out of compliance.
- Flag immediately to the protection team leader any VA case/s that are about to exceed the approved amount for medical support, follow up, and coordinate to conduct the required case conference.
- Track the victim assistant cases in the area of intervention and create monthly medical treatment summaries for each individual during his/her treatment and at the conclusion of the medical treatment when the case is closed.
- Maintain strict confidentiality about the beneficiary and the treatment being provided and, at all times, take active steps to protect the clients and their families’ privacy and dignity.
- Prepare and submit weekly and monthly updates/work plans promptly.
- Input all cases to the medical database and share it with the Team Leader on a monthly basis.
- In collaboration with the Protection Team Leader, attend weekly meetings with the team to address any issues and set team plans.
Coordination and representation
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with other local and International NGOs, government authorities, and other key stakeholders to ensure active coordination and coordination.
- In coordination with the Protection Team Leader and Protection Manager, participate in sub-cluster meetings as per area of interest.
- Maintain positive work relationships within the team and promote team-building efforts in coordination with the Protection Team Leader.
Other
- The Protection Assistant – Medical may be requested to attend an emergent call for duty during emergencies, upon the decision of the manager
- Sign and strictly abide by the DRC Code of Conduct, program requirements, and operational policies at all times and report any concerns through the appropriate mechanism.

- Any other duties relating to the nature of the job as directed by the Team Leader or Protection Manager.
Qualifications:
To be successful in this role you must have:
Experience and technical competencies:
- Minimum of three years experience working in a relevant field.
- 2+ years of experience working in a hospital.
- Fluency in Arabic language (written and spoken)
- Good English language (written and spoken)
- Ability to work in a structured manner and independently with limited oversight.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills, including a supportive working style.
- Essential computer literacy (word and Excel).
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, creativity, and flexibility.
- Strong ability to organize work, meet deadlines, maintain composure, work independently, prioritize work under pressure, coordinate multiple tasks, and maintain attention to detail.
- Flexibility in working overtime when needed.
- Demonstrated interest in humanitarian work and supporting people affected by conflict.
- Previous experience with international organizations is a strong advantage.

Moreover, we also expect the following:
Education:
- Associate degree in a medical field (Nursing/Public health or any other relevant field of study) – Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Proven field experience can be accepted in lieu.
Languages:
- Arabic – fluent, in reading and writing.
- English – good.
