Danish Refugee Council, one of the worlds leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Protection Assistant -PSS, Under the management of the Protection Team Leader, and supervision from the Protection Officer -PSS in close coordination with other DRC Protection teams and field units, the Protection Assistant PSS is an active member of the Protection field team, involved in different field-based activities as related to psychosocial support. Psychosocial support activities will target women, men, girls, and boys and will be provided both in individual as well as in group settings.

About the job

This role has an area focus and ensures compliance with DRC procedures and guidelines within the area. The Protection Assistant – PSS will implement DRC Psychosocial support activities for adults and children and other related tasks. Activities are implemented for population groups in need of humanitarian assistance in the flood-affected areas in the East

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities will include, but not necessarily be limited to the following:

Programming & Operations

  • Under the guidance of the Protection team leader and the Protection officer-PSS implement Psychosocial support activities including community mobilization.
  • Facilitate Psychosocial support activities for the affected population
  • Provide Psychological first aid as needed to affected individuals
  • Identify through the Psychosocial support activities individuals in need of referrals to protection or other services
  • In close coordination with the rest of the Protection team Protection build on community engagement initiatives; share updates highlighted by community members on protection risks, concerns, and situational updates affecting populations of concern for management, program, and advocacy purposes.
  • Support in identifying information and awareness-raising needs and gaps related to protection and rights among target beneficiaries and communities.
  • Disseminate accurate and impartial information to beneficiaries through individual, collective/group events, advisories, and leaflets.
  • Carry out information dissemination and awareness-raising activities among the affected communities
  • In coordination with the Team Leader (and Officer), use solid participatory approaches with attention to age, gender, diversity, and vulnerability criteria, to facilitate meaningful dialogues that enable participants to self-identify protection concerns that affect their communities

Reporting

  • Ensure proper use of tools and online platforms provided for effective reporting information management as relevant.
  • Collaborate with the MEAL teams in carrying out monitoring, evaluation, and feedback activities within the target areas.

Coordination and representation

  • In coordination with the Project Manager and the Protection Team leader, represent DRC to a range of stakeholders including individual beneficiaries and community groups, humanitarian agencies, services providers, local authorities, etc. To this end, ensure professional standards and transparent communication to build trust and collaboration with concerned stakeholders.
  • Collaborate and integrate with other DRC sectors during field implementation as needed and advised by the Protection Team leader.
  • Ensure interactions by staff with individual beneficiaries and community groups take place in environments and in ways that respect and promote safety, agency and dignity in accordance with professional standards for protection and humanitarian work.

Operations support

  • Support the coordination of program activities as they relate to logistics, administration, finance, or security as relevant, in coordination with the relevant departments.
  • Ensure compliance with the relevant internal policies and directives.

About you:

  • At least 1 year of professional experience in humanitarian interventions, MHPSS programming, human rights, civil society, communication, or community development, preferably with an international humanitarian organization.
  • University Degree in the field of Social Sciences, Sociology, Community Development, Communication, Humanitarian Affairs, or any other related field
  • Fluency in written and spoken Arabic.
  • Good Working knowledge of English.
  • Experience in Psychosocial support activities or community based protection
  • Experience in community mobilization and implementing community outreach activities.
  • Familiarity with international protection and human rights legal standards, and MHPSS minimum standards in emergencies.
  • Demonstrated capacity to effectively represent a humanitarian organization with the individuals and communities and build trust
