Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified candidate with the relevant experience and skills for the Protection Team Leader role in Iraq.
Overall purpose of the role:
- The Protection Assistant is responsible for conducting a range of protection activities, including information provision and regular participatory protection assessments of potential/selected beneficiaries.
- The post holder works in close cooperation and coordination with other team members in ensuring quality implementation of community-based protection activities, Case management and Violence against women and men activities
Responsibilities:
- Identification of people in need of individual protection (Case Management and/or IPA) and ensure timely response
- Provide case management services, in line with DRC Iraq guidance and case management standard operating procedure (SOP) to community members of different ages (youth, adults and older persons), (men and women) and abilities (including persons with disabilities).
- At all times, respect information management principles and guiding principles for case management.
- Provide case management services, following standardized case management process including the following steps: identification, comprehensive needs assessment, case planning and implementation, follow-up and review, case closure.
- Provide individual protection assistance in line with DRC Iraq guidance and individual protection assistance SOP, including detailed documentation of intake, assessment, and distribution.
- Regular follow-up on the assigned case to ensure that the case plan remains adequate, to monitor progress and identify additional needs.
- Provide psychosocial support throughout the whole case management process.
- Conduct regular visits to targeted field locations for mobile intake and referral.
- Participate in supervision and coaching sessions, individual and/or in group, including case discussions.
- Participate in the implementation of awareness sessions on diverse topics, using validated materials and DRC facilitation guides.
- Facilitate regular community consultations, including focused group discussions (FGDs), with different groups (older persons, men, women and youth) following DRC guidance to ensure continuous up-to-date understanding of the community needs and capacities, as well as protection concerns, and changes in the context.
- Participate in protection monitoring and raise protection concerns to the Protection Officer to ensure tailored community-based approach.
- Identify beneficiaries in need of further support and ensure timely external or internal referral and follow-up (legal aid, shelter, cash & livelihoods).
- Ensure that all Protection activities are complying with best-practice and international standards in protection response (including DRC SOPs).
- Participate in internal and external training, as requested by the Protection Officer and Protection Team Leader.
Administrative
- Ensure all Protection activities which includes, CM, IPA, Violence against women and men and information dissemination session activities are recorded and documented accurately and in a timely fashion on DRC Iraq’s IM system.
- Implement all necessary MEAL tools, including pre- and post-test.
- Produce activity reports as required and share with the Protection Officer
- Support Protection Officer and Team leader with administrative tasks including purchase requests to supply chain.
Other:
- Ensure compliance with DRC guidelines and policies on HR, admin, finance, and supply chain.
- Ensure adherence to DRC national staff policy guidelines and Code of Conduct.
- Ensure compliance with DRC policy and programmatic minimum standards.
- Ensuring compliance with the zero-tolerance to Sexual Exploitation and Abuse policy.
- Perform any other relevant tasks as requested by the Protection Team Leader.
