Job Description

Under the overall supervision of the Senior Protection Coordinator and Protection Coordinator and the direct supervision and guidance of the Senior Protection Associate – and in close coordination with the respective units and partners in Camp As Saliyah – the incumbent will provide caregiving services for guests with urgent home and personal care assistance needs, including ensuring meaningful access to services for vulnerable population in relation with internal policies, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). In particular, the successful candidate will:

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  1. Provide home caregiving services for elders, medical cases and unaccompanied minors 
  2. Facilitate transportation for guests’ with mobility issues to medical clinic (ISOS) appointments or walk ins and note the visit summary
  3. Assist with hygiene and administration of physician-prescribed medications. 
  4. Dress or redress wounds and assess the healing progress.
  5. Provide education to patients and families on proper home health care procedures and strategies.
  6. Educate on and support in performing correct administration of self-injectables.
  7. Provide public health education and assistance with cleanliness which could in turn reduce the incidence of disease.
  8. Coordinate with ISOS Physicians, Physical Therapists, MHPSS, Protection, Medical Referrals, Occupational Therapists, MHD and other healthcare providers in the patient’s care plan.
  9. Keep the patient comfortable through palliative care.
  10. Recommend activities, or devices that may improve the quality of life for the patient in coordination with specialized medical staff.
  11. Prepare administrative reports and program updates as necessary.
  12. Support the organization and execution of protection/emergency mobile missions, when needed.
  13. Keep a log of assistance provided for medical cases and medication schedule and initial emergency response.
  14. Provide caregiving services for children during their parents’ visits to the ISOS clinic or hospitals
  15. Take care of children’s physical hygiene and clothing (distribution of goods, facilitation of needs, cleanliness), escorting children to social and/or medical services when necessary
  16. Have an overview of the general hygiene and living conditions in accommodation rooms. -Coordinate with US Department of State – CARE contractor (V2X) to ensure the assigned areas (activity room, common spaces, and the residence of the client) are clean, tidy, and sanitized as frequently as required.
  17. Look after the safety of accommodated children or medical cases during shifts, including during the night, outside regular working hours, on weekends, and on public holidays.  In the event of a crisis or urgency, undertake incident management, inform other staff and/or the Facility Coordinator and follow relevant directives and instructions.
  18. Provide daily, weekly, and monthly reports to the direct supervisor.
  19. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications and Experience

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and Midwifery, Social Sciences or other related fields from an accredited academic institution with three years of relevant professional experience, or 
  • High School Diploma with five years of relevant professional experience

Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience with case management for at-risk individuals in an emergency response.
  • Experience in working with Unaccompanied and Separated Children (UASCs). 
  • Experience working with vulnerable groups including elderly persons and pregnant and lactating women. 

SKILLS

  • Strong interpersonal, counselling and communication skills. 
  • Knowledge of protection mainstreaming principles and its application. 
  • Knowledge of Psychological First Aid (PFA) and its application.
  • Demonstrated analytical, writing and reporting skills.
  • Solid computer skills (MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint).

Languages
IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish. 

REQUIRED

For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written).

DESIRABLE

Basic Knowledge of Dari, Pashto, or Arabic (oral and written) is a distinct advantage.
