Specific duties will include, but not be limited to: The Protection Officer- GBV prevention is directly supervised by Protection Team Leader -GBV, technically supervised and reports to Protection Project Manager-GBV and Protection Specialist-GBV. The Protection Officer- GBV is responsible for support to all aspects of Adolescent Girls programming and Women and Girls center activities (oversight of empowerment, skill building and recreational activities) at Sittwe and Pauktaw townships. The Protection Officer- GBV prevention supports a project design to equip Adolescent Girls in villages with the skills and experiences necessary to make healthy, strategic life choices as well as promote the safety, prevention of and response to violence against adolescent girls.
This role has an area focus and ensures compliance with DRC procedures and guidelines within the area. The role contributes to the development of area strategies, which are translated into action plans and day-to-day tasks. The role provides support and/or technical guidance to base operations.
Responsibilities:
Gbv Prevention And Women Empowerment Activities:
- Provide technical oversight to Protection Assistants/Team Members – GBV Prevention to ensure the quality and implementation of activities offered in the Women and Girls Centers (WGCs).
- Support center managers (Protection Assistants/Team Members – GBV Prevention) to select, mentor and train Women Facilitators to conduct recreational, psychoeducational sessions in the Women and Girls Centers (WGCs).
- Oversee the roll out psychoeducational sessions on self-esteem, communication, self-care etc. for women and adolescent girls visiting Women and Girls Centers (WGCs).
- Facilitate trainings for women facilitators, community members and outreach workers.
- Mentor Protection Assistants and Protection Team Members to lead support groups, awareness sessions, and psychoeducational sessions in WGCs.
- Design income generating activities including sewing training, and soap making, recruit teachers for cross cutting skills such as numeracy, literacy, basic computer skills and financial literacy.
- Participate in assessments and contribute to the overall intervention strategy based on feedback received from girls throughout the Adolescent Girls programming.
- Strictly adhere to GBV guiding principle while engaging with Adolescent Girls and their parents/care givers.
- Supervise and train local community and mentors to provide quality life skill sessions through training, daily mentoring, weekly meeting, and applying regular knowledge and skills assessment tools.
- In collaboration with community leaders and women leaders, develop a selection criterion of adolescent girls to engage them in Girl Shine life skill curriculum sessions.
- Support in contextualization and adaptation of “Girl Shine” Curriculum into villages and local community context.
- Conduct Adolescent Girls Programming related capacity building training for mentors, community leaders, and parents/care givers.
- Coordinate with Case Managers when there is a need to provide case management service for adolescent girls.
- Assist in developing IEC and BCC materials align with the context by collaboration with other team members, ensuring messages are appropriate for the community and conduct pilot testing before dissemination.
- Develop monthly and weekly activity plans for mentors with the support of Protection Specialist-GBV.
- Monitor supply and logistical needs of WGC safe space and ensure adherence to all relevant DRC logistic policies.
- Build a relationship with community leaders, and parents/care givers in the villages and local community to enhance communication and collaboration throughout the period.
- Participate in monitoring and evaluation activities including assessments, surveys related to activities.
Gbv Awareness Activity Roll Out:
- Lead the roll out of awareness raising campaigns, focus group discussions (FGD) and other community engagement activities related to GBV, Gender Equality.
- Collaborate and support the planning and roll out of awareness activities to commemorate days such as: International Women’s Day, International Youth Day, International Day of Persons with Disabilities and 16 Days of Activism.
- Lead the roll out of GBV prevention curricula under the supervision of Protection Team Leader-GBV and Protection Specialist-GBV.
- Oversee the recruitment Field based Women Facilitators, Volunteers.
Reporting, Monitoring And Evaluation:
- Compile and edit weekly and monthly reports submitted by Protection Assistants/Team Members-GBV and submit them to the Protection Team Leader, and Protection Specialist.
- Submit monthly reports about all GBV prevention activities which include a thorough analysis of progress against indicators, qualitative information and community feedback on program.
- Prepare monthly curriculum progress reports and ensure filling out curriculum related session guidance tools.
- Complete the indicator tracker for all Gender Based Violence prevention activities monthly.
- Support the Monitoring and Evaluation of activities conducted in the Women and Girls Center.
- Draft quarterly reports to be submitted to the donor
Administration:
- Fill and submit Purchase Requisitions, Travel Authorizations, financial related documents and any other DRC administrative forms as needed.
- Ensure to complete all administrative procedures to procure all equipment and supplies needed in the Women and Girls Centers (WGCs) in a timely manner.
- Oversee the documentation process for the payment of volunteers’ incentives on a monthly basics.
- Coordinate with other DRC departments to ensure the effective use of the logistical and financial resources.
- Experience and technical competencies: (include years of experience)
- Minimum 2 years of practical experience in sector area working for an NGO or association
- University (BA/BSc) degree in relevant field is an asset or equivalent professional qualification.
- Demonstrated experience in working on women protection such as empowerment programs, reproductive health, counselling etc.
- Previous experience in working with communities, running GBV prevention curricula, raising awareness and providing services in camp and village settings.
- Commitment to achieve gender equality and end all forms of Gender Based Violence
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Willingness to serve women affected by violence on the basis of need regardless of their ethnic background.
- Demonstrated commitment to the elimination of racism and discrimination against ethnic minorities.
- Knowledge about basic reproductive health.
- Computer skills, including knowledge of Excel
- Understanding of operational context in Rakhine State
- Full proficiency in English.
- Other local language us considered as an asset.
