Protection Officer – Anbar- Falluja

The Protection Officer is responsible for protection activities in the areas of intervention, Anbar: Fallujah and Garma. The main tasks will be to monitor the situation in terms of protection of populations affected by the crisis, to conduct mapping for existing service providers and provide information to the communities through the organization of FGDs, KIIs, and HHs. To work on case management, PSS, awareness raising, and refer the most urgent cases to the appropriate service. The Protection Officer will respect the principle of confidentiality of the information received during the activities. S/he will work closely with the Protection Team Leader/Protection Manager, other Protection Officers, Lawyers, MEAL focal point, and other mobile team members to provide a protection response during deployment.

 

 

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct case management activities to people who are vulnerable within our areas of intervention by following the IRC SoPs and policies.
  2. Monitor, asses, observe and report on key protection concerns and rights violations in the field to the Protection Team Leader and Protection Manager.
  3. Implement protection monitoring (HHs, KII, and FGD) through field visits in villages, camps and other informal settlements with persons of concern within the community and identify individuals at risk and humanitarian needs.
  4. Refer cases of vulnerable people to other IRC departments (Legal, Cash, Child Protection, GBV) and other humanitarian partners, government services or UN agencies
  5. Meet with local authorities, government officials, community leaders, humanitarian partners and other relevant actors to advocate for the rights of vulnerable people.
  6. Conduct training with key stakeholders on protection principles, vulnerability criteria and protection mainstreaming.
  7. Conduct training with Community Representation Groups (CRG) and (COV), and work with them regularly to build capacity and support their activities.
  8. Work with the Protection Team Leader and/or Protection Manager to network with UN agencies, INGOs, local NGOs, local authorities and any other service providers in order to map service networks for referral.
  9. Prepare and send daily/weekly field reports to the Protection Team Leader / Protection Manager, also raise any protection concern or rights violation noticed in the area, according to best practices in term of confidentiality and safety of beneficiaries.
  10. Daily upload all the protection activities on CommCare system.
  11. Perform other duties, as required by the supervisor in order to support the protection program.

Other Internal and/or external contacts: describe the nature of departments or groups the position influences or requires support from to accomplish objectives.

Internal: IRC staff.

External:  IRC stakeholders.

 

  1. Good communication skills including ability to gain trust and build relationships with new communities.
  2. Experience with working with IDPs, returnees and host communities.
  3. Belief in human rights including gender equality.
  4. Experience working with people from different backgrounds.
  5. Fluency in Arabic, good level in English.
  6. good computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and Power point.

 

  • Education: B.A Degree in social work, psychology, law, or other relevant area.
  • Work Experience: At least two years’ experience in NGO/INGO.

 

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

 

  • Language Skills:  Fluency in Arabic and good level in English.
  • Certificates or Licenses: N/A
  • Belief in human rights including gender equality.
  • Previous experience working in an NGO/INGO, especially protection sector.
  • communication skills; ability to convey information effectively and strong coordination with clients and local authorities.
  • Experience working with people from different backgrounds.
  • Experience working in case management and PSS is strongly preferred.
  • strong skills to establish positive working relationships with employees and all other stakeholders to maximize cooperation and productivity.
  • Good computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Inbox and Power point.

 

Total benefits:

  • Salary range: (1,930,043-2,509,056) Iraqi Dinars, based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity and budget as well as calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
  • 13th month salary per year.
  • 21 days of leave and 15 days of paid holidays per year.
  • IRC provides health insurance for staff and their dependents.
