Danish Refugee Council (DRC)is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.

DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 250 staff in Ukraine and will continue significant scale-up in 2022 to implement emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.

DRC is currently looking for aProtection Team Leader (Gender Based Violence- GBV)for its activities inMykolaiv.

This position will report to the Protection Manager.

Overall purpose of the role:

Under the management of the Protection manager, the Protection Team Leader (GBV) will oversee the implementation of activities to prevent and respond to violence against women and girls. He/She will be responsible for managing and supervising the GBV team, will provide guidance and support to the team, ensuring that staff members have the skills and resources they need to provide effective survivor-centered care. S/he will also be responsible for ensuring that the GBV program is coordinated with other protection activities. S/he will participate in coordination meetings and represent DRC in relevant forums. S/he will be based in Mykolaiv DRC office, with field activities in Mykolaiv and Kherson oblasts.

Candidates without a background in working with women and girls affected by violence, but who have an interest in the area are encouraged to apply as on the job training will be provided.

Main responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Protection Manager, the Protection Team Leader (GBV) will:

  • Manage and oversee the implementation of the activities to prevent and respond to violence against women and girls, including planning, monitoring and evaluation. Develop work plans, ensure quality programming and manage program budgets and resources.
  • Supervise and manage the GBV team, providing guidance and support, facilitating team meetings, completing performance reviews.
  • Oversee and supervise the case management activities conducted by the GBV Assistants in line with guidance. Case management is a structured form of support for women and girls affected by violence, including emotional support and supporting them to access services. Ensure that documentation related to case management is safely stored and documentation is completed correctly.
  • Constantly build the capacity of the GBV team members and other key stakeholeders in the prevention of a, including through the provision of trainings and mentoring. Support in the development of project tools and resources in coordination with the GBV Specialist.
  • Coordinate with other organizations and stakeholders working in the same area to ensure that efforts to prevent and respond to violence against women and girls are integrated and effective, participate in coordination meetings and represent DRC in relevant forums; develop and maintain effective working relationship with relevant partner agencies, community focal points and service providers.
  • Maintain an up-to-date service mapping of the service providers operating in the area
  • Develop contextualized key messaging and materials, including IEC material, for awareness-raising and capacity-building purposes.
  • Identify strategies to reduce women and girls risk of vulnerability to violence and support in integrating these strategies into humanitarian programming.
  • Ensure that accurate and timely reports are submitted to donors, and that program documentation is maintained and up-to-date.
  • Contribute to and provide field-related inputs for proposals for funding for new projects.
  • Provide regular reports to the Protection manager
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Protection Manager, relevant to the achievement of protection objectives.

Required experience and competencies:

  • Commitment to gender equality and interest in working in the prevention and response to violence against women and girls.
  • Familiarity with topics regarding womens protection or womens rights such empowerment programmes, reproductive health, counselling etc.
  • Comfortable in speaking about sensitive topics and working with people in distress.
  • Previous experience in managing a team or supervising team members is prefered.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work effiectively with survivors, staff members, and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Strong sense of personal integrity and understanding of confidentiality and ethics.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Outlook/Exchange, Windows operating systems.
  • Strong English language skills.
  • Ukrainian language skills required.

Required education:
Completion of secondary school, or relevant level of experience required. University study preferred.

  • Level: G-Manager.
  • Designation of Duty Station: Mykolaiv.
  • Start date: As soon as possible.
  • Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Councils Terms of Employment for national staff.
