Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located within the Office of Chief of Staff of United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and will be based Tripoli, Libya. The Protocol Assistant will report to the Protocol Assistant at the FS-5 level.
Responsibilities
Within the limits of delegated authority, the Protocol Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: • Participates in planning, organizing and conducting ceremonies, meetings, conferences and events including the preparation of the list of participants, seating arrangements, and coordination of necessary documentation. • Provides support in organizing visits for the high-level delegation and act as Project Officer for civilian delegations as required. • Informs the relevant host country offices in regard to protocol norms and procedures. • Provides protocol services for official functions and social events hosted by the Head of Mission (HOM). • Drafts routine correspondence (congratulations, condolences, apologies, invitations) for signature. • Maintains the mission protocol list and the Government’s VIP list. • Carries out administrative tasks necessary for the functioning of the Protocol Office, including maintenance of filing systems. • In support of Human Resources Section and in coordination with MOVCON and the Integrated Security Workforce facilitates the submission of visa requests for UNSMIL staff and non-staff personnel, the arrival of staff at airport, liaises with local authorities and security structures at airport if and when required and ensures adequate follow-up. • Liaise with the Mission Support and the Integrated Security Workforce to ensure the necessary logistical and administrative support is provided for all above-mentioned events. • Undertakes any additional assignment as requested.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Job – Specific Qualification
A driving license is required. Proficiency in computer-based applications such as Word and Excel in particular is required.
Work Experience
A minimum of three (03) years of relevant experience in protocol services, administration, events managements, or related areas is required. Experience in customs clearance is desirable. Experience in dealing with government offices is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English and Arabic is required.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

United Nations Considerations

Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.
