Description
The Psychiatrist Doctor will provide specialized psychiatric services to Iraqi returnees requiring Psychosocial Support (PSS) and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS). The role involves working closely with the MHPSS team, including Case Managers/Social Workers, Outreach Mobile Workers, PSS Facilitators, and Psychotherapists. The psychiatrist will focus on diagnosing, treating, and managing mental health conditions, including providing psychotropic medication when necessary, and ensuring effective follow-up on cases.
key Responsibilities:
Clinical Assessment and Diagnosis:
- Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations and diagnostics for returnees presenting with mental health concerns.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on clinical assessments.
Treatment and Medication Management:
- Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications as required, ensuring appropriate monitoring and adjustment of treatment regimens.
- Provide guidance and support to the MHPSS team regarding medication management and side effects.
Collaboration and Coordination:
- Work closely with MHPSS coordinators, Case Managers/Social Workers, Outreach Mobile Workers, PSS Facilitators, and Psychotherapists to ensure comprehensive care for patients.
- Attend regular team meetings to discuss case progress, share insights, and plan interventions.
Case Management:
- Follow up on psychiatric cases to monitor progress and make necessary adjustments to treatment plans.
- Provide expert advice and support for complex cases requiring specialized psychiatric input.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and confidential medical records for all patients in accordance with organizational and legal standards.
- Prepare and submit reports on case outcomes and treatment efficacy as required by the organization.
Training and Capacity Building:
- Provide training and support to other MHPSS staff on psychiatric conditions, medication management, and treatment strategies.
Compliance and Quality Assurance:
- Ensure all clinical practices comply with organizational policies, standards, and local regulations.
- Participate in quality assurance activities to continuously improve MHPSS services.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills
Education:
- Medical degree (M.D.) with specialization in Psychiatry.
- Valid license to practice psychiatry in Iraq. Approval from the Department of Health (DoH) is required for DoH doctors.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in psychiatric practice, including experience working with displaced populations or in humanitarian settings.
- Proven experience in managing complex mental health cases and providing psychotropic medication.
Skills:
- Strong diagnostic and clinical skills in psychiatry.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex medical information to non-specialist staff and patients.
- Proficiency in Arabic; knowledge of English is an advantage.
- Demonstrated commitment to ethical practice and patient confidentiality.
