Context

Terre des hommes Jordan (Tdh) was established in 2007 in response to the Iraqi refugee crisis. Since then, the Migration program has evolved into responding to various emergencies that have affected the country at different periods in time, including the Syrian refugee crisis. since 2013, Tdh works in the Emirati Jordanian Camp (EJC) responding to CP needs via a comprehensive package of intervention Tdh is one of the few service providers in the camp, which is mostly underserved and disconnected from the general humanitarian response ongoing in the Country.

Mission

The Psychologist will be responsible for providing mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) services in a camp setting, focusing on child protection cases and supporting families, the role include conducting individual and group counselling sessions, using psychological assessment tools to identify needs and symptoms, and delivering interventions based on assessments, the psychologist will also be responsible for training and coaching volunteers in MHPSS methodologies, facilitating parenting group sessions, and ensuring adherence to confidentiality and ethical standards, this role requires strong diplomatic skills, the ability to address sensitive issues, and expertise in child protection, SGBV prevention, and Psychological First Aid (PFA), the Psychologist will collaborate with the case management team under the technical supervision of the MHPSS Specialist to provide comprehensive support.

Key Responsibilities

The following are the specific tasks that the Psychologist will be responsible for:

  • Conduct psychological assessment to the referred or self-referred individuals to identify the needs and determine the appropriate treatment plan.
  • Develop the treatment plan based on assessment results and clients’ goals.
  • Conduct regular counselling sessions with the clients.
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow the ethical standards in providing psychological intervention.
  • Document the sessions progress according to the organization standards.
  • Collaborate with the case managers to ensure a comprehensive care plan for the clients.
  • Participate in supervision, training, and professional development activities to promote counselling and treatment competence.
  • Identify and refer parents or children in need of advance psychosocial, Psychiatric and protection help and refer them to the case manager.
  • Participate in case conferences and case plan development in coordination with the case management team and in alignment with the CM SOP.
  • Collaborate closely with the project’s team and meet them on regular basis to discuss cases and activities.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records and group records and documentation as per organizational policies.
  • Conduct support groups sessions with children and children’s caretakers, particularly parents, and other family members (aiming at basic counselling, awareness raising, psychosocial support ).
  • Shares on a weekly & monthly basis an activity report and every time this is requested the line manager.
  • Provide coaching and technical support to volunteers in implementing MHPSS methodologies,
  • Collect and provide any qualitative and quantitative data requested by the line manager.
  • Participate when requested in the community campaigns, events and advocacy work
  • Participate in the development of the response offered to the targeted population, contribute to developing tools and SOPs and training packages in coordination with the Technical Unit and under the responsibility of the line manager.
  • Attend, when requested, external training and coordination meetings with key stockholders.

Child Safeguarding Policy – Safety and Security

  • Knows and implements institutional policies on security, child protection, PSEA and Code of Conduct and fraud prevention, in their day-to-day work.
  • Commits to ensure the best implementation possible of the Tdh Child Safeguarding Policy (CSP) in her/his area.
  • Commits to inform the Country Representative and/or the National Safeguarding Focal Point and/or the Head of MENA Region and to deal with any case of any allegations or possibility of transgression, even potential.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with individuals, families, and colleagues, and to document cases clearly.
  • Ability to assess complex situations, develop practical solutions, and adapt interventions to meet the needs of individuals and families.
  • Effective at managing multiple cases, prioritizing tasks, and adhering to deadlines.
  • Work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including case managers, project officer, volunteers, and other professionals, to achieve common goals.
  • Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information and cases.
  • Adjust to changing circumstances and work effectively in dynamic and challenging environment.

Specific knowledge

Strong knowledge of clinical psychology or counselling, particularly in working with children and families in a camp setting, skilled in using psychological assessment tools to identify symptoms needing advanced intervention and experienced in facilitating group and individual counselling for child protection cases and their families. familiarity with Psychological First Aid (PFA), as is the ability to train and coach volunteers in MHPSS methodologies, the role requires expertise in addressing sensitive issues and providing support in child protection and SGBV contexts.

Requirements

Training/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, or counselling, a master’s degree in clinical psychology is an asset.
  • Must be Licensed social worker / psychologist
  • Proven experience in providing training and developing training materials.
  • The ability to provide on job training and coaching for volunteers in implementing MHPSS methodologies.
  • Proven experience in facilitating parenting group sessions.
  • Proven experience in facilitating support sessions
  • Diplomacy and ability to confront and discuss sensitive issues.
  • Very strong planning and organization skills. Demonstrated experience in a Psychosocial assessment tool,
  • Ability to recognize psychological symptoms that requires referral and advance intervention.
  • Familiar in the Psychological first aid (PFA).

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in conducting group sessions for children and adult’s.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in providing individual counselling for children and adults.
  • Experience in projects addressing protection, CP and SGBV prevention and response.

Translation:

Proficiency in both Arabic and English, with the ability to translate documents and communications as needed.

Computer know-how

Good use for windows programs and MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

Objectives

Objectives for the upcoming period should be completed on the Line Supervisor Evaluation Interview Form and in consultation with the functional leaders.
