Position Summary
Michigan State University Counseling & Psychiatric Services (CAPS) provides a wide range of mental health services for students on campus, including and not limited to: screening/triage appointments, individual and group therapy, psychiatric services, outreach and multicultural engagement, clinical care coordination, intensive integrated clinical services, and hospitalization coordination and support.

Position Description
Counseling & Psychiatric Services (CAPS) at Michigan State University invites applicants for a full-time Staff Psychologist. We are a diverse and multidisciplinary staff who strives to use multicultural and collaborative approaches to provide quality care. Moreover, we work to connect each student with the most appropriate and available resources and services within CAPS.
The Staff Psychologist is a generalist position and will provide direct services and outreach to a diverse student population as well as provide leadership for the group services program at MSU CAPS including but not limited to the establishment of: mission, vision, policies, procedures and training. We welcome applicants with experience with, and interest in providing general clinical services and group coordination and training. Salary range begins at $80,000 and is commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities
Under the general supervision of the Director of CAPS and reporting to the Associate Director of Counseling, the Staff Psychologist will provide comprehensive psychotherapy services at CAPS for students to include but not limited to: screening/triage, individual counseling, group services, and provide advocacy and crisis intervention services. As part of a multidisciplinary health team, they will communicate with other staff members to establish appropriate plans of care. This position also provides training, supervision, and other clinical duties as assigned. Additionally, the Staff Psychologist will coordinate and assist the leadership team in enriching the group program at MSU CAPS.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing more than four years of graduate study beyond a bachelor’s degree, such as a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology; one year predoctoral fulltime internship (by a licensed psychologist), six months to one year of related experience in psychotherapy in a clinic/agency environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Full licensure as a Psychologist by the State of Michigan, or license eligible in the State of Michigan within eighteen months from date of hire.
Desired Qualifications
Experience in brief psychotherapy and crisis intervention; experience in training and supervision; one-year post-doctoral internship; experience with group programmatic assessment and development-particularly interpersonal process groups; implementation of psycho-educational programming and outreach experience. Demonstrated competency or expertise in one or more specialty areas; working with diverse, multicultural student population including international students and students or color; working with LGBT populations; working in an Integrated Mental Health setting; working with mood/bipolar disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorders, eating disorders, trauma including PTSD and complex trauma, psychological testing (e.g. ADHD assessment), and substance abuse disorders; experience in clinical supervision, three to five years of professional experience; experience in interdisciplinary setting.
