Job Summary

The Hope and Healing Program meets the physical and mental needs of vulnerable families in Sinjar through mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS).

The Psychosocial Support Assistant (PSS Assistant) serves in a support role on the MHPSS team responsible for preparing and delivering groups for men and women will also facilitating programming for children. These groups will be a place for men to receive MHPSS support and for women to socialize, learn an art skill and increase their creative expression. Children will be provided with safe space according to child safeguarding policies. The PSS Assistant will work with a MHPSS staff to facilitate these groups and provide safe spaces for men, women and children. The goal of this position is to help beneficiaries increase understanding about health and develop positive resiliency skills. The PSS Assistant will maintain working relationships with other MHPSS providers throughout the area to ensure beneficiaries have access to the services they need.  Additional responsibilities may include helping to implement community events to increase awareness about mental health and wellness.

Job Duties:

1- Serve staff and beneficiaries with creativity, kindness, and generosity

2- Translate mental health curriculums as needed

3- Complete administrative tasks for the mental health team

4- Coordinate and make referrals to other health care providers in the area for beneficiary care

5- Maintain beneficiaries files following standards. Ensure all information is kept confidential and clinical records and is kept securely

6- Produce statistical data and reports as requested

7- Assess and address motivational and psychosocial issues among individuals and in the community

8- Help with the implementation of regular community events

9- Support with the development, implementation and documentation of regular support & skills  groups for men, women and children

10- Assist with skills and support groups, offer trainings and workshops as necessary

11- Help with the implementation of regular community events

12- Facilitate child friendly programming ensuring child safeguarding policies are followed

13- Accompany MHPSS team on home visits as needed to offer psychosocial skills training to families

Complete other activities as directed by the Line Manager and performing all other tasks and responsibilities assigned for the benefit of Samaritans Purse with a generous and serving spirit.
