Lungs Europe is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the team for an initial 6-month period. They will support public engagement activities and help deliver its Healthy Lungs for Life activities (www.healthylungsforlife.org). The right candidate will have the opportunity to be involved in interesting health areas such as air quality, climate change, tobacco cessation and physical activity, as well as travel to Vienna in September for the ERS Congress (www.ersnet.org/congress-and-events/congress/).

In return candidates should display flexibility and show an ability to adapt and become acquainted with various ELF and ERS projects and policies.

Established in November 2019, Lungs Europe allows two important European organisations – European Lung Foundation (ELF) and European Respiratory Society (ERS) – to work in partnership and with all stakeholders in the respiratory field to drive policy and the regulatory environment in support of lung health at the European level. Lungs Europe is well placed to play a significant role in EU funding programmes and projects related to respiratory health and disease.

ELF is a patient-led organisation that works internationally to bring patients and the public together with healthcare professionals to improve lung health and advance diagnosis, treatment, and care.

ERS is the largest scientific and clinical organisation in respiratory medicine in Europe. Its members are scientists, clinicians, allied healthcare professionals and other experts from around the world.

Main responsibilities:

Supporting with Healthy Lungs for Life campaign activities including

  • Dealing with suppliers in German.
  • Helping to develop marketing materials.
  • Creating social content.
  • Admin support.
  • Any other activities related to the successful delivery of the Healthy Lungs for Life campaign

Helping to engage new stakeholders to increase the impact of public engagement for health policies, including:

  • Organising meetings.
  • Helping to deliver events.
  • Helping to create engaging presentations.
  • Desk-based research to identify potential partners.
  • Updating and maintaining databases.

Profile and requirements:

  • Degree or equivalent in relevant discipline, e.g. health/research/policy
  • Ability to plan and execute events.
  • Ability to distil complex ideas quickly in order to articulate these to relevant audiences internally and externally.
  • Ability to create engaging documents.
  • The ability to plan your own work, work on your own initiative and to deadlines.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Knowledge of medical/research/health policy issues.
  • Understanding of the European institutions.
  • Ability to work as part of a small but growing team.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Office (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Fluency in English and German (written and spoken) are required
  • Knowledge of additional languages is a plus
  • Experience in an international environment
