Public Engagement Manager

Position Overview

The Noyo Center for Marine Science is seeking a dynamic and creative Public Engagement Manager to lead public-facing onsite operations, communications, and visitor experiences across our organization. This role is central to how our community and visitors connect with marine science, conservation, and the unique coastal environment of Northern California.

The Public Engagement Manager oversees visitor engagement, exhibits, public programs, communications, volunteer coordination, and retail operations at the Discovery Center Science Museum and Crow’s Nest Interpretive Center.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in communications, education, nonprofit management, museum studies, environmental studies, or a related field
• 2–5 years of relevant experience in public engagement, communications, museums, nonprofits, or similar settings
• Strong writing, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Skilled in collaboration, customer service, and community engagement
• Availability for occasional evenings and weekends

Preferred Skills

• Experience in museums, aquariums, science centers, or interpretive environments
• Familiarity with social media management and digital content creation
• Experience with CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress)
• Knowledge of tools such as Canva, Square, or Adobe Creative Suite
• Experience coordinating volunteers or public programs
• Interest in marine science or environmental education
• Spanish language skills
