Job Description

AECOM’s West Region Strategic Communications Group is looking for a Public Relations Supervisor: Strategic Communications and Public Involvement to assist in public involvement and community engagement.

This will be a hybrid position including a combination of both remote and in-office scheduling. It can be based in Austin, TX; Houston, TX; Dallas, TX or Phoenix, AZ.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

• Serves as Public Involvement or Public Information Task lead on projects and pursuits with strategic communications needs, collaborating with Project Managers.

• Responsible for the overall quality of staff’s work and oversees projects with task level financial accountability, managing production-level staff from AECOM, subconsultants and the client.

• Makes decisions independently on problems or challenges and leads teams in implementation of stakeholder engagement and communication strategies.

• Provides leadership, mentorship, training and direction to others on the team, and could serve as a direct supervisor to junior staff.

• Communicates directly with client as a lead worker, exercising sound judgment when communicating with internal and/or external clients or customers.

• Creates Public Involvement and Communications Plans and helps project team strategize on best practices and risk communications.

• Guides teams in the preparation of documents, materials, graphic displays and layouts for use in communications and public information.

• Oversees logistics and facilitation of public meetings, workshops, open houses, focus groups, pop-ups, stakeholder meetings and other community outreach events, both virtually and in-person.

• Directly engages and informs stakeholders, communities, and residents on public or private projects in-person and/or virtually, or through written materials.

• Develops presentations for meetings with various stakeholders within a client’s brand guidelines.

• Manages the teams drafting content for e-newsletters, stakeholder communication, fact sheet and exhibit content, and other materials as needed and provides guidance and QC on materials produced.

• Manages teams and performs QC of summary reports for documentation of stakeholder meetings and public events.

• Other tasks as directed by the client to lead public involvement and communications activities during projects underway in the community.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements :

• Bachelors Degree in Communications or a related field + 8 years of public relations and/or related communications experience or a demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

• Ability to understand technical project information, develop an outreach strategy related to that information, and oversee the tasks within that strategy to execution.

• Ability to manage, delegate, and QC work products from sub-discipline contributors (graphic designers, technical writers, social media content developers, etc.) to ensure that the overarching strategy is maintained, all deadlines are met, and all work products meet client standards.

• Understanding the technical skillsets of contributing staff to determine and assign the best team for a specific strategy or task.

• Significant experience managing multiple projects with multiple tasks and deadlines.

• Ability to serve as project spokesperson on behalf of clients for media interviews/outreach.

Preferred Qualifications :

• Experience leading communications and public involvement task on large infrastructure projects.

• Experience working in or supporting the transportation engineering and/or construction industry.

• Experience working with environmental justice or limited-English proficiency populations performing equitable engagement during community outreach activities.

• Experience performing public involvement in planning and environmental (NEPA) phase projects.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively work with various departments and levels within company.

• Intermediate skills with Microsoft Applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

• Familiarity with the Adobe suite of tools.

• Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $70,500 – $129,000.
