Background
World Vision International (WVI) is a Christian humanitarian, development and rights advocacy organization whose goal is to create sustainable changes in the lives of children, families and communities living in poverty. As part of the fight against HIV, Tuberculosis and Malaria in the Central African Republic, WVI has been selected as a Principal Recipient of the Global Fund GC7 grant for the period from 2024 to 2026.
As part of the health system strengthening component of the grant, specifically in the area of human resources, WVI is recruiting 8 specialized medical doctors on behalf of the Ministry of Health and Population. These specialists will be assigned to specific hospitals in country to fill current gaps, ensure the transfer of skills and build the capacities of students of the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Bangui.
Skills required:
- Degree of Doctor of Medicine with specialization in Pulmonology.
- Registration with the Order of Physicians and good knowledge of the regulations and medical standards in force (can be done locally).
- Demonstrated clinical experience in pulmonology, preferably in a teaching hospital setting.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proven teaching skills and interest in medical education.
Objective of the position:
The pulmonologist practicing in a university hospital and teaching at the Faculty of Medicine has a diverse and complex set of tasks. These tasks include:
- Diagnose and treat pulmonary conditions in inpatients or outpatients.
- Perform additional examinations such as pulmonary function tests, chest X-rays, CT scans or lung biopsies.
- Prescribe appropriate medical treatments, whether medication, respiratory physiotherapy or pulmonary rehabilitation.
- Participate in multidisciplinary consultation meetings to discuss complex cases and develop individualized treatment plans.
- Ensure regular follow-up of its patients to evaluate the effectiveness of treatments and adjust if necessary.
- Perform more invasive medical procedures such as bronchoscopies, bronchial biopsies, or thoracic procedures.
- Teach medical students and interns the basics of pulmonology, as well as recent advances in the field.
- Supervise the practical training of interns during their pulmonology rotations.
- Participate in clinical research activities to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field of pulmonology.
- Contribute to the follow-up of patients with tuberculosis.
In short, the pulmonologist practicing in a university hospital and teaching at the Faculty of Medicine plays an essential role in the care of patients with pulmonary pathologies, while training the new generation of health professionals.
