The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is a premier research-to-policy institution, generating evidence, strengthening research and related capacity in the African research and development ecosystem, and engaging policy to inform action on health and development. APHRC seeks to drive change by developing strong African research leadership and promoting evidence-informed decision-making (EIDM) across sub-Saharan Africa.
APHRC invites applications for Qualitative and Quantitative Field Interviewers in its Teacher Professional Development (TPD) study. The study will be conducted in the North-West province of South Africa and the contract will be for at least 10 days between August and October 2024. This research aims to evaluate successful aspects of an effective teaching practice program for TPD, encompassing its development, implementation, impact on instructional decision-making within the classroom, individual behavior influences, strategies for uptake and scaling, key challenges, and teacher perspectives. Data collection methods will entail conducting interviews with key TPD informants and teacher trainees, including classroom observations and document analysis, at North-West University.
Duties and responsibilities
- Attend all scheduled training days and progress meetings.
- Mobilize study participants as defined in the study.
- Consent study participants prior to administering the study tools.
- Conduct face-to-face interviews with participants as sampled for the study.
- Complete, edit and submit all assigned interviews for verification by team leaders.
- Compile and submit a daily work progress report to the immediate supervisor.
- Ensure the safety of all assigned study tools and equipment.
- Any other related activity assigned by the research team.
- Be prepared to work full-time on the project for the duration of the data collection.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must have at least a bachelor’s degree in education, social sciences, or related fields
- Previous experience in teaching is highly desired.
- Knowledge and experience in MS Office and electronic data collection platforms.
- Possess strong interpersonal, communication, and interviewing skills.
- A current resident of North-West province, South Africa.
- Fluent in English and any other language/s spoken in the North-West province, South Africa (Setswana, Sesotho, IsiZulu, isiXhosa, Afrikaans, etc.)
