Salary: £35,000 – £45,000 per annum + bonus (up to 50% of salary paid annually) + benefits

The Role:

We are looking to recruit a Quantity Surveyor to join our growing team. Reporting to the Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will seek to minimise the cost and risk of a construction project and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required legal standards and quality.

As Quantity Surveyor, you will support with the tender stage through preparing estimates and costs of the work and Bills of Quantities for contractor tender packs. As the project progresses, you will prepare and execute Small Works Contracts with Sub-Contractors, keep track of any variations to the contract and create reports to show profitability. The role will also include the commercial de-risking of contracts, financial management, negotiation and agreeing contracts.

The key responsibilities of the role are:

  • Working as part of a team alongside the Senior Quantity Surveyor, working on multiple projects simultaneously and demonstrating the skillset to work independently.
  • Developing and demonstrating an understanding of High Voltage Power Systems and/ or Civil Engineering.
  • Compiling detailed bills of quantities and invitation to tenders.
  • Tendering of both the grid connection and private network infrastructure from LV up to and including 132kV.
  • Drafting of technical descriptions of both the grid connection and private network infrastructure from LV up to and including 132kV.
  • Technical review of tender projects scope and of contractors’ tenders.
  • Working with the design team on the construction of project layout drawings.
  • Working with the construction manager on creating and updating quote templates.
  • Contributing to bids to win new business.
  • Monitoring commercial operational activities across multiple projects.
  • Commercial assistance in drafting subcontractors.
  • Monthly financial review with the project management team of all subcontractors.
  • Resolving disputes within contracts.
  • Assistance with contract administration.
  • Projecting positive cashflow and milestone creation. Invoicing substantiation.
  • Projecting risk register engagement.
  • Working efficiently and calmly to tight deadlines or as other stress factors arise.
  • Mentoring members inside and outside of your team to help the business needs.
  • Following all published guidelines, standards, policies and procedures.
  • Attend training as required to maintain knowledge and application of processes and procedures.
  • Engaging in a culture of continuous business improvement.

The Person:

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of working as a Quantity Surveyor related to grid connections or civil engineering. You will have demonstrated experience of working and interfacing with clients and key stakeholders on multiple projects simultaneously.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and be highly organised with the ability to prioritise a busy workload. You will have a proactive nature, an initiative-taking approach, and the ability to effectively problem solve. Attention to detail, an eye for accuracy, and strong MS Excel skills are required.

Ideally, you will hold a degree in Quantity Surveying/ Construction Commercial Management or equivalent. A strong understanding of business finances would be highly beneficial.
