Plantlife are seeking an advisor to oversee the delivery of practical habitat management and
species recovery management within temperate rainforest sites in Northwest England, and enthuse
a network of site managers on the action required for threatened plants and fungi.
What will you be doing?
The Rainforest Advisor will design and deliver a programme of advice and training to support
Plantlife’s partners and their site managers. The programme will drive species recovery for
lichens and bryophytes within temperate rainforest and showcase the sites as demonstrable
examples of excellent habitat and species management.
The postholder will support delivery of Plantlife’s element of the #Species – Northwest and
Southwest Rainforest Restoration project, liaising with project partners to develop, deliver
and evaluate project activity. This project is funded by the Government’s Species Survival
Fund. The fund was developed by Defra and its Arm’s-Length Bodies. It is being delivered by The
National Lottery Heritage Fund in partnership with Natural England and the Environment Agency.
The postholder will also help develop and deliver specific funded projects relating to
temperate rainforest and oceanic woodland management. This may include arranging practical
works, species monitoring and surveys and ensuring our partners are delivering agreed outputs
and outcomes.
This is a full-time post (35 hours per week). We work normal office hours (9-5, Monday to
Friday with an hour for lunch), although the roles may also require some weekend and evening
working for which time off in lieu is available. We also fully support flexible working.
It is expected that the post will be home-based within or close to Cumbria. The role will
require frequent travel throughout Cumbria and occasionally elsewhere in England and Wales.
Who are we looking for?
You will be an experienced conservation site manager and advisor, ambitious to learn more about the ecology and requirements of rainforest plants and
fungi. You will be an influential and persuasive individual with previous project management
experience, comfortable engaging with various stakeholders across all aspects of conservation
management.
