Duties and Responsibilities
These positions are in the Aviation Section of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) and based in Juba. The incumbents report directly to the Ramp Manager of Air Terminal/Airfields Unit. Within delegated authority, the Ramp Control Assistants will be responsible for following duties: a) Ensuring safe and professional conduct of all ground activities on the ramp and airside. b) Monitoring control of all vehicles, cargo and personnel movement on the ramp/apron area. c) Monitoring operational condition of ramp/apron, runway, taxiway, and lighting systems as applicable and report conditions to Airfield Manager. d) Monitoring control of access points. e) Monitoring fueling operations to ensure all safety instructions are followed and report any unsafe operations. f) Monitoring to ensure only authorized personnel; vehicle drivers and operators gain access to the ramp/apron. g) Monitoring apron/ramp authorization passes. h) Ensuring that coordination between Fire Fighting, MOVCON, AIROPS Center and Ramp Management is carried out as required. i) Monitoring to ensure that in coordination with the SSCAA marshals and ATS, aircraft are marshalled and parked in a manner that is safe and expeditious, while providing the separation between aircraft and between aircraft and obstacles as laid down in the relevant SSCAA documents. j) Provision of AIROPS Center information on condition and serviceability of the parking and landing areas. k) Monitoring all personnel on the apron/ramp to ensure that flight line procedures are followed. l) Monitoring, detect and halt unsafe operations on the apron/ramp. m) Reporting in writing any breaches of instructions, regulations, and safety procedures to ATU and ensure immediate cessation of any such activities. n) Attending briefings as arranged and given by the AIROPS Center and update ATU of such briefings. o) Completing daily hazard report/ SITREP
Qualifications/special skills
High school diploma or certificate is required. A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in air transportation Operations, Ramp Management or any other related field is required Valid driving permit (Should be able to operate vehicle with manual transmission) is required Training in Aviation Ramp management or other similar types of trainings is required. Training in any of the following: Airside Safety Management or Aircraft Marshalling or Ground handling equipment operation, or any other related field is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position(s) advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
